About the adventure

The wind carries snow and smoke as you crest the last rise. Above, clinging to a ridge at the edge of the realm, stands a lonely frontier fortress of purple banners—where Cormyr ends and the wild begins. Maybe you arrive with a battered pack and borrowed steel, a spell half-learned, or a noble signet hidden under travel-stained gloves. Whatever brought you here, King Foril Obarskyr's Call for Adventurers has opened a door: prove yourselves at the fortress, hold together as a company, and earn an adventuring charter paid for by the Crown. This is a level 1–3 campaign built as an approachable "boot camp" introduction to D&D and to my wider Cormyr meta-campaign. No prior experience with the rules or the Forgotten Realms is required—just curiosity, communication, and a willingness to work as a team. You'll learn the game through play: scouting patrols, escorting caravans, hunting raiders, tracking smugglers, and slowly uncovering the deeper threats moving in the shadows beyond the walls. Life at the fortress is as much a part of the story as what's beyond it—drills with Purple Dragon recruits, downtime in the common hall, omens read by the resident priest, wary glances from the War Wizard who watches the horizon too closely. Not far off, the dwarves of Clan Dragonjaw keep their own watch over the mountains—old allies of the Crown, though lately their messengers come less often, and what they're guarding so carefully behind their gates is anyone's guess. Meanwhile, whispers along the trade roads point to the Zhentarim, a shadowy network always hungry to tighten its grip on the routes in and out of the kingdom. The Shadovar haven't struck Cormyr openly yet, but the signs are there for those who know how to read them, and something dark is coming. I run character-driven games: your backstory becomes part of the world, and your choices shape how the story unfolds—play it safe and secure the border, or chase the rumors that lead somewhere worse. Sessions run on Foundry VTT with custom tokens, maps, and ambient music, with character creation and management on D&D Beyond and communication via Discord. If the table clicks, this isn't a one-shot dead end. The campaign can continue past level 3, your characters could be invited to join my ongoing Dragons of the Gate campaign, or you could earn your own Adventuring Charter and strike out as a company in your own right, continuing your story elsewhere in Cormyr.

About me

Welcome to my D&D5e realm! I'm Chris, and I've been passionately guiding adventurers through epic tales for the past 4 years. With a player group of up to 6, my table is a place where your character's story truly matters. My DM style is deeply character-oriented, as I take pride in weaving your background into the fabric of the world, making your journey feel personal and impactful. Visual storytelling is a cornerstone of my games. I bring the world to life with rich images, detailed maps, and immersive settings, ensuring you can visualize every twist and turn of your adventure. My ability to improvise on the fly means that your choices genuinely shape the story, creating a dynamic and responsive game world. I approach game planning with a professional, deliberate, and methodical mindset, always ensuring inclusivity through the use of safety tools. My schedule is regular, and I fully leverage digital tools to enhance your experience. You'll have access to content on DnDBeyond, our games will be run on FoundryVTT, and we'll communicate through Discord. My love for D&D is boundless, but as with any passion, it comes with its costs. By hosting these games, I'm seeking a way to finance my hobby, ensuring that I can continue to provide the best experience possible. On a personal note, I bring over a decade of military discipline to my DMing, and when I'm not rolling dice, I'm a proud dog parent to two majestic Alaskan Malamutes. Join me for an unforgettable journey where your character's story is at the heart of the adventure. Let's create epic memories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation happens in stages, before and during Session 0. Before Session 0, we'll talk through your character concept and backstory together. Come with a broad idea, not a fully written backstory—a personality, an archetype, a "vibe" you want to play. A great way to start is to think of characters from movies, books, or games who've stuck with you, and let that be your jumping-off point. From there, we'll work together to root your character in the world: where they're from, why they've answered the Crown's call, and how they connect to the fortress and the people around it. This collaborative step matters—it's how your backstory becomes part of the campaign rather than sitting outside it. During Session 0, we'll build your character properly: stats, class, race, and mechanics, done together in D&D Beyond. Starting level is 1. No specific sourcebooks are required—if there's something you're excited to play, bring it and we'll figure out if and how it fits.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game, please make sure you have: 1- Completed the player questionnaire: https://forms.gle/Nj9EN3PLY18iZ2Rm8 2- Provided 2–3 time options for a 2-hour discussion (can be split into two 1-hour sessions). The first hour covers expectations and goes over your questionnaire answers; the second hour focuses on your character concept and backstory. 3- A free Discord account: https://discord.com/ 4- A free Forge account: https://forge-vtt.com/ 5- A working computer with a microphone and headset as well as a stable internet connection.
