About the adventure

MOONLIGHTERS is a high-stakes Dungeons and Dragons campaign set in a fantastical version of the modern day. The players take the roll of Moonlighters - part time adventurers that operate after dark. Are you a college dropout Elf? A pixie attorney specialising in Magic Item law? A gnome taxi driver? Whatever your reason, while the city sleeps, you Adventure! Players will form an Adventuring Party, working the Adventuring fif economy in the big city. They'll choose from available jobs, meet wacky clients, and co-operatively worldbuild and expand on the city with the DM in the process. Will you stage an elaborate heist at the Museum of Villainy? Fix a Wizard Duel for a down-and-out gambler? Explore the forgotten catacombs of the public graveyard? It's up to you! Each of the player characters will have a day job, which will be narratively incorporated into the stoty. If your single dad Orc is an accountant by day. maybe they'll notice some irregularities in the companies mafical accounts. If they're a thankless sound technician for a bratty DJ, maybe they'll have some connections to the shadier side of the city. During a Session 0, we will all discuss the general tone of the game the players are in the mood for. Playwe characters could all be friends fresh out of college, living out a coming-of-age Jon Hughs movie (with oozes and werewolves), a group of reluctant oddballs flung together in a workplace comedy, or desperate individuals just trying to make ends meet in a brutal, unforgiving city. The choice will be communal, and can always change with the narrative.

About me

Game designer and enjoyer! have been playing and making game for a while, successfully funding my first original TTRPG a couple years back. Love creating deep, complex, and mysterious plots featuring plenty of political intrigue. I like to give my players plenty of opportunities for character-expression in-game and foster interesting group dynamics. There's no better feeling to me than when players get lost in a world! I have GM'd many, many games including live comedy shows to an audience, and longform on a podcast. Talk to me if you're into the idea of crafting a fun, intriguing, and cathartic story together!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters using Standard Array (I like all players having an even progressoon). Depending on background and chosen job, I might decide to also allow characters to begin with a minor perk or unique magic item.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I will call every player before the game to try to get a feel for what they like, dislike, and expect from the game. We will then have a session 0 where we all meet and discuss some character relationships and do some communal worldbuilding.

What Will D brings to the table

I will provide form-fillable character sheets that do a lot of heavy lifting for character creation, along with PDFs and links to tools whenever appropriate. I will also be creating all the maps for combat and dungeons myself for the game.

Homebrew rules

i always prefer handinh out bespoke magic items rather than genetic. I have a very good idea for balance hqving run many 5e games and designed games myself. There will be homebrew rules related to the day job aspect of the game. However, depending on player preferences, these can be minor or major parts of the game.
