About the adventure

The City never sleeps, and as a Moonlighter, neither will you! MOONLIGHTERS is a high-stakes Dungeons and Dragons campaign set in a fantastical version of the modern day. The players take the role of Moonlighters - part time adventurers who operate after dark. Are you a college dropout Elf? A pixie attorney specialising in Magic Item law? A gnome taxi driver? Whatever your reason, while the city sleeps, you Adventure! Players will form an Adventuring Party, working the Adventuring gig economy in the Big City. They'll choose from available jobs, meet wacky clients, and co-operatively worldbuild and expand on the city with the DM in the process. Will you stage an elaborate heist at the Museum of Villainy? Fix a Wizard Duel for a down-and-out gambler? Explore the forgotten catacombs of the public graveyard? It's up to you! Each of the player characters will have a day job, which will be narratively incorporated into the story. If your single dad Orc is an accountant by day. maybe they'll notice some irregularities in the company's magical accounts. If they're an exhausted sound technician for a bratty DJ, maybe they'll have some connections to the shadier side of the city. During a Session 0, we will all discuss the general tone of the game the players are in the mood for. Player characters could all be friends fresh out of college, living out a coming-of-age John Hughes movie (with oozes and werewolves), a group of reluctant oddballs flung together in a workplace comedy, or desperate individuals just trying to make ends meet in a brutal, unforgiving city. The choice will be communal, and can always evolve with the narrative. I will discuss privately what each player wants to see, and what they never want to see in game. I'll make sure everyone is on the same page without drawing attention to any individual player's needs.

About me

Game designer and enjoyer! I've been playing and making game for a while, successfully funding my first original TTRPG a couple years back. Love creating deep, complex, and mysterious plots featuring plenty of political intrigue. I like to give my players plenty of opportunities for character-expression in-game and foster interesting group dynamics. There's no better feeling to me than when players get lost in a world! I have GM'd many, many games including live comedy shows to an audience, and longform on a podcast. Talk to me if you're into the idea of crafting a fun, intriguing, and cathartic story together!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters using Standard Array (I like all players having an even progression). Depending on background and chosen job, I might decide to also allow characters to begin with a minor perk or unique magic item.

The current party

ONGOING CAMPAIGN: 1 SEAT AVAILABLE! Join four regular players at Level 1. The current party includes a Monk, Bard, Fighter, and Sorcerer. New characters will join at the party's current level and receive an individual introduction to the campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I will call every player before the game to try to get a feel for what they like, dislike, and expect from the game. We will then have a session 0 where we all meet and discuss some character relationships and do some communal worldbuilding.

What Will D brings to the table

- A COMPLETELY original story that places your characters at its centre. - Incorporate player character backstories into the world and larger narrative. - I create ALL maps and assets myself. This includes battlemaps, dungeons, and character artwork - all tailored to our game. - I also provide a soundtrack and soundscape for the game for an immersive and tailored experience. - NPCs have memorable voices, accents, tics, and quirks. - Custom (and optional) mechanics for the modern day setting that have already been playtested and refined - NO AI!!!!!! I will provide form-fillable character sheets that do a lot of heavy lifting for character creation, along with PDFs and links to tools whenever appropriate. THIS GAME HAS LEITMOTIFS!!

Homebrew rules

The game uses D&D 2024 as its foundation, and I am comfortable incorporating and using homebrew if it is balanced. I am a game designer and have released several TTRPGs and board games. I have played a LOT of 5/5.5e and have a good eye for mechanics that encourage fun and interesting gameplay, whilst also fitting within the game's general power budget. Homebrew will be reviewed and incorporated on a case-by-case basis, and by player preference. When I do, I let players know they should be open to balance changes or have standard "back up" options in mind if something proves to be overpowered or underpowered.
