About the adventure

* ROLEPLAY FOCUS: As a narrative first DM, I want to help you bring your STAR WARS fantasy to life. FULL voice acting for every NPC + guaranteed backstory integration. * LIVING WORLD full of reactive and proactive factions and NPCS. * STAR WARS NOIR: A crime story with many dark twists and turns. * Tactical "CYBERPUNK RED MEETS D&D" style combat using SW5e! If you're a fan of the KOTOR games, Cyberpunk, ANDOR, OR you simply prefer a more MATURE Star Wars experience, this is for you. Set nearly 150 years after the battle of Endor, the galaxy yearns to lift itself up out of a dark age. The New Republic has come and gone, failing to protect its outer territories from slaving marauders, cartels, and intergalactic invaders. In its wake, a new, reformed Empire has emerged. Vowing to uphold personal freedoms and defend its citizens both human and alien alike from harm, this new "Fel" Empire recognizes the light of the force as its de facto dogma. In doing so, Empress Marasiah Solo-Fel employs the use of an order of Imperial Knights, force wielding weapons of the Empire that view law and order above compassion and charity. For Imperial Knights of the New Galactic Empire, peace is achieved through control. The Empire seeks to bring new planets into the fold to support its increasingly ravenous economy. PELAGOS, an ecumenopolis built atop ancient ocean beds has become the hub of trade between the outer rim and the frontier worlds of the unknown regions. Though they have agreed to come under the protection of the Empire and allow embassies and trade agreements, the planet has not yet formally joined the Empire. The deal hinges on the satisfaction of the triumvirate council, the voices of the worlds three most influential guilds and political bodies: the arcology guild, the banking families, and the BXA (Bureau of Xeno Affairs). Already, the triumvirate grows weary, as the citizens of Pelagos express discontent with the increased control the Empire already exerts. To compound this further, only months before the world was set to join the Empire formally, a Senator was assassinated live on the holo-net during an impassioned speech regarding corruption within the Triumvirate. Tensions have skyrocketed, and conspiracy grips both Pelagos and The Empire. The Empire points its fingers at Pelagos, insisting that the attack was organized resistance and that the slow response by local authorities was intentional. The BXA assures Imperial Intelligence that the situation was isolated and under control. In the hours since, additional attacks both physical and digital at various Imperial installations across Pelagos have been observed. The Empress herself has ordered that a trusted team of investigators be sent out to gain control of the situation at once. Assisted by the highest echelons of the ISB, your squad of Imperial Knights, agents and Stormtroopers has been dispatched.

About me

Do you crave dark fantasy, and gritty science fiction? Do you want to dream of carving your mark across a living world inspired by Malazan, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Elder Scrolls, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses? Are you looking for tactical combat, meaningful player choice, and cinematic roleplay with real stakes? Then you’re in the right place. First of all, thank you for taking the time to check out my table. My name is Daniel, and I’m a creative writing major with over 10 years of Game Master experience and a background in semi-professional voice acting. Storytelling has always been one of my greatest passions, and few things excite me more than building unforgettable adventures alongside a group of players who are just as excited as I am about telling an meaningful story. I first discovered tabletop RPGs back in college through a close friend, and immediately fell in love with the blend of collaborative storytelling, strategy, performance, and worldbuilding they offered. Within a month, I became the forever DM for my group, and I’ve been running games ever since. I have taught the game to at least 20 of my own friends and strangers over the years, so if you have even a remote interest in the hobby, I'd be happy to guide you along! As a Game Master, I focus heavily on immersive, reactive storytelling. My worlds are built to feel alive. Every NPC has their own goals, beliefs, fears, and history. The world existed before your characters arrived, and its denizens will continue fighting long after they leave. I aim to strike a strong balance between top class cinematic storytelling, challenging tactical combat, meaningful roleplay, and player freedom. To me, combat facilitates engagement with your character and their sheet, and allows for another layer of roleplay and narrative immersion. As such, I try to present a challenge that feels realistic to the stakes of the story at hand. I look to challenge, not to kill my party, but sometimes combat CAN be lethal! I reward creativity, ambition, and out-of-the-box thinking just as much as careful planning and mechanical mastery. Whether you want political intrigue, desperate battles, emotional character arcs, or morally gray decision-making, I want your story to feel personal and alive. At my table, player agency comes first. I aim to present a living world that reacts to the decisions you make within it. Whether we're playing in Pthurelia or Star Wars, Every action you take carries a ripple that affects nearly a dozen detailed in-game factions. I run both a weekly "ANDOR" inspired Star Wars adventure, as well a gritty, ASOIAF-esque homebrew adventure. If any of this interests you, I'd be happy to be your DM or take any questions! I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a free session 0 where we discuss expectations, rules and begin the character creation process. I will set aside time to personally help you build your characters both mechanically and narratively, so that you feel at home within the world. We use 4d6 drop the lowest when determining stats, and I allow players to roll three times and choose their preferred set. I want your characters to feel heroic and capable, as the challenges they will face may seem daunting at times. We will be using Star Wars 5e, a highly praised and extensively tested total conversion of the base d&d 5e system. All materials are available on SW5e.com

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Materials required: A roll20 account, a discord account, a reliable microphone and internet connection. Provided by me: Music (via a music application I pay for on discord), maps, character art, and much more.

What Dan Whills It brings to the table

I run a highly cinematic, player-choice driven campaign where every non-player character is voiced, and every decision matters. I like to set scenes using art and music, and I have a backup contingency for nearly every possible hiccup or unforeseen circumstance. I want you to feel immersed in the world, and that includes having realistic consequences and rewards for your actions. I have been writing and practicing improv for years, so feel fully comfortable in taking the session "off-rails" so long as you're being respectful and engaging with the game and the other players fairly. I do not run a meatgrinder campaigns, but my default difficulty setting is set to "realistic". I often give "tells" before combat or foreshadow the effectiveness of your enemy using the current context of the story. If your party of imperial knights plans an effective raid against a warehouse full of low-level criminals, expect an easy, smooth combat experience. If you run head-first into a well defended, secure compound with NO plan, expect death. I love cinematic, in-character "aha" moments. As such, my rule of cool's are given out when players plan well, engage with the world in a unique way, or think outside of the box.

Safety

How Dan Whills It creates a safe table

I run a 0 tolerance policy when it comes to bullying, harassment or abuse of any kind. Open, friendly discussions in good faith are always welcome, as are constructive criticisms of the any part of the campaign that I run. I will ask that players privately submit me a list of "off-limits" topics, and I will ask the party to respect that list. We are all here to have fun, and enjoy a little slice of Star Wars fantasy. Be kind, fair and mature to one another and we'll all get along great. The topics in this game will be heavy, as we're telling a very mature, realistic story that just so happens to be set in a fictional world. If the themes and topics seen in shows like ANDOR or NARCOS make you uncomfortable, then unfortunately, this may not be the game for you. I offer X, N and O cards during a session and will always check in after each session to make sure everything is going okay.
