About the adventure

THE END OF THE WORLD: After the Wildfire virus brought the dead back to walk among us, American cities were decimated. AN EXODUS: The government carpet bombed New York, bringing a mass of people northeast and over Lake George to Vermont. A SAFE SPACE: With droves of food, firearms, and a spread-out population, the Green Mountain State remained safe for some time. CONFLICT BREWS: As thousands approach the western border, looking to survive, the National Guard lacks resources to keep them away. WINTER IS COMING: All this as an autumnal chill begins to descend upon Killington, and food will grow even scarcer when the frost and the snow come. THE WALKING DEAD: Created by Free League Publishing, you assume the role of a survivor. Assemble pools of six-sided dice to roll tests, while stress introduces "walkers" for unintended consequences. RULE OF COOL: Though the book's rules always have a place at my table, I will always decide in favor of what fits the narrative best! BEGINNER FRIENDLY: I've introduced dozens of players to a variety of systems and love to bring new people into my favorite hobby!

About me

Hello! My name is Jared (known online as Jerd) and I've been running and playing tabletop games since 2016. When a group of friends expressed interest in learning Dungeons & Dragons, I volunteered to DM a homebrew 5e game, which set me on a long and incredible path into gaming. During the pandemic, I took my hobby online and played almost daily. Though most of my TTRPG experience is in the fantasy genre (D&D 5e/5.5e, Pathfinder 2e, Daggerheart, etc.), I have also run World of Darkness systems including a Berlin-based Vampire: The Masquerade play-by-post (running now for 2+ years!), and newer systems like Outgunned and Shadowdark. I particularly enjoy horror games such as Mothership, Alien, and Candela Obscura.

Character creation

Creating your character

- PDFS INCLUDED: As a player, you will be provided with a PDF for the rulebook and blank character sheets. - BEGINNER FRIENDLY: I've helped dozens of first-time TTRPG players to create characters that they're proud of. - FREE SESSION 0: We will meet as a table to go over character relationships, backstory, and expectations! - NEW TO THE APOCALYPSE: You will be creating introductory characters as well as backup survivors... in case someone bites the dust.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need access to Discord for voice chats and a laptop or smart device to access Owlbear Rodeo for dice rolling and visual aides. I will provide the rules via PDF as well as blank character sheets to fill out, either in advance of (or during) Session 0!

What Jared brings to the table

NO MATERIALS NEEDED: I will provide the core rulebook and blank character sheets for use! I'll also host the virtual tabletop on a browser-friendly website. FICTION FIRST: My tables are focused on the narrative, where rule of cool always plays a key role in deciding what happens. BACKSTORY DRIVEN: I enjoy weaving in every character's background, motivations, and goals into the overarching plot! AN OPEN WORLD: My players are encouraged to turn over every stone and explore and every avenue that interests them. SETTING THE SCENE: I provide visual aides for locations, characters, maps, and more! Music references are provided but 100% optional.

Homebrew rules

N/A, but I am open to discussion and pivoting on rules to suit the table as a whole!
