About the adventure

As a professional DM and as a TTRPG player for decades, I’ve always been fascinated by my players decisions and how those impacted the game. Whether it’s turning enemies into allies, or spoiling the BBEG plans, or solving a puzzle in a unique way, there’s no end to the creativity that players bring to the table. Those choices often have profound impacts on the game and can change the entire course of adventures. I’ve run many campaign books and while they’re often fun and creative, they all leave me with the same question: when the campaign is done, what does the player have to take away from the game? The answer is obvious: the memories and fun times, the joy and satisfaction of completing the story, and a character sheet. While those are desirable things, I’ve felt that it could be so much more. Why shouldn’t the actions of this particular group have resounding effects in future campaigns? What if the characters who lived through the campaign were able to leave a lasting impact on other campaigns set in the same world? As I pondered this, I decided to explore a West Marches style campaign. A large-scale campaign in which the players’ actions have a profound, lasting impact on the campaign world, and allow for further adventure with other play groups. The world grows and expands as the players explore it, the campaign unlocks playable races and classes as the players influence the world. So, this campaign utilizes rules-lite systems, favoring high-creativity and low hassle. It takes minutes to create a character and jump into the game. You’ll be joining one of several campaigns as the players explore the world together and make discoveries. In addition, Vestige has endeavors - achievements which will affect every player in the entire campaign!

About me

I’m Levi. I’ve been a DM for about ten years now, starting in Pathfinder 1e and eventually switching to Dungeons & Dragons and now branching into OSE! I’ve been running games for friends, family, and strangers, and we have all thoroughly enjoyed the game. I like to focus on narrative, looking to intertwine my players’ characters into the story, making them feel like their decisions matter, not only for the narrative of the campaign, but matter to them. Because that’s the goal at the end of the day. A DM sitting alone with an entire world written up doesn’t have a story until heroes join the table. And that’s where you come in! Join me and let’s work together to create a one of a kind story. While I’ve done custom worlds before, I will be leaning more into published works from Wizards of the Coast. As I mentioned, my goal is to take a campaign you’ve always been interested in (or one you’ve played before) and make it unique to your character and the party. You will feel like your character isn’t just another hero in a rabble traveling through Faerun, but the main character of the story. I will be playing remotely, using virtual tabletops. I don’t like the idea of automating everything about the game, however, so, expect to bring your dice and roll them! I won’t be fudging my rolls on my end, and I expect honesty from my players (though, maybe not from their characters). Once we get started in a game, whether that’s a one-shot or a full campaign, I am only just a message away to answer questions or provide necessary information before or after a session. I’m happy to entertain all kinds of requests for specific games (even ones I don’t have set up) or one-shots. Just send me a message and let’s get something started! Here is a recommendation from one of my players (leaving them anonymous for privacy): “I have played several campaigns over 5+ years with Levi as DM. Whether Levi is creating an original story or following a book, every session is well prepared, detailed, and immersive. Levi gives life to NPCs and the world they live in. Levi gives players full control of the adventure and is great at improvising when the party throws him a curveball. Whether you've made it to level 20 or you're just learning your first cantrip, I highly recommend Levi as your next DM.“

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen in our LegendKeeper app or even just at home with a piece of paper. Dice rolling will occur virtually, but with this rules-lite system, there isn't a strong need to go overboard with apps and services.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To join the game, you'll need the following: - A Discord account ... and that's literally it. I'll handle everything else. Have a basic knowledge of computer use, like how to download a file, maybe?

What TheForeverDM brings to the table

I bring everything you need. The Discord will have any pdf or link you should utilize. Just bring yourself.

Homebrew rules

You should approach this game as largely 'homebrew'. A lot of rules have been truncated or outright removed to lean heavily into swift action and effect.

Safety

How TheForeverDM creates a safe table

When the players explore the world and expand the lore, inevitably they will face perilous situations. In the cases that they succumb to these perils, what should be the outcome? In the campaign books, this problem is swept under the rug, the player simply remakes a character at level, and the game continues. In that way, the player characters aren’t significant in the outcome of the story, but rather just the catalyst of change. This type of thing offends me as a DM. It makes the character’s death feel insignificant and irrelevant to the larger story. In a campaign books, I understand this need, but could this be better? In Vestige, we introduce the Wall of Heroes. This is both a web element here on the site, but a physical location in the campaign world. For us as members of the world, when a character dies, we move the character’s page to the Wall of Heroes where their deeds are immortalized. Indeed if their deeds were significant enough, their death may see ripples in the campaign world, such as statues or buildings named in their honor, etc. Their character page will point to the contributions the character made in the game world. If they made a discovery of a specific location, for instance, it would be tracked on their page. In this way, character death is a feature. Player characters are forever immortalized in the world, permanently remaining a cherished memory in honor of them. A memorial to them and their deeds.
