About the adventure
Masks of Nyarlathotep is widely regarded as one of the greatest tabletop RPG campaigns ever written: a sprawling investigative horror epic spanning multiple continents, scores of memorable NPCs, and horrors far beyond human comprehension. Set in the 1920s, your investigators will be drawn into a deadly web of cult activity, occult secrets, ancient ruins, and cosmic terror. The campaign unfolds as a globe-trotting sandbox of mysteries and dangerous expeditions across the world. Survival is never guaranteed. Sanity is even less certain. _____________________ This is a roleplay-heavy campaign focused on investigation, atmosphere, problem solving, and collaborative storytelling. Expect tense conversations, slow-burning dread, desperate combat, moral ambiguity, and moments of genuine triumph against impossible odds. While there are action sequences and deadly encounters, this is not a dungeon crawl or tactical combat-first game. I run Call of Cthulhu with a cinematic presentation style using a heavily developed FVTT setup, immersive sound design, curated music, custom props, animated elements, and a massive collection of handouts gathered from multiple editions of the campaign and from exceptional community resources. Theater of the mind is common, though battle maps are used when clarity or tension benefits from them. Each major chapter also features a custom cinematic intro video to establish tone, location, and atmosphere before play begins, customized for your party. _____________________ This game is best suited for players who enjoy: Investigative roleplay Long-form campaigns Character-driven storytelling Mystery solving and clue interpretation Historical horror Cosmic horror and existential themes _____________________ No prior Call of Cthulhu experience is required. Be in safe hands with a keeper who has run this adventure before. I’ve invested heavily into preparing and expanding this campaign to create a polished long-form horror experience with deep immersion and strong narrative continuity. I particularly enjoy running investigative horror with a focus on tension, atmosphere, meaningful player choice, and clue-forward storytelling. If that sounds like fun to you, let's start playing!

About me

Creating your character
Once a suitable group has formed, we’ll schedule a (free) Session Zero to create investigators together and establish party connections, expectations, and tone. Players are welcome to: Create investigators manually from the books Use FVTT automation tools Use external tools like Dhole's House Choose from available pre-generated investigators designed for Masks of Nyarlathotep Existing investigators from prior campaigns may also be considered if they fit the tone and power level of the game. All finalized characters will be maintained within Foundry VTT for play.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We’ll use: Discord - for voice chat and session coordination Foundry Virtual Tabletop - for gameplay Links and onboarding information will be provided before the first session. Players will only need a stable internet connection, microphone, and modern web browser. Consistent attendance and long-term engagement are important for maintaining campaign continuity.
What Spagoodlers brings to the table
I aim for a highly immersive presentation style with an emphasis on atmosphere and player engagement. Expect: A feature-rich FVTT world Syrinscape ambient audio and music Extensive official and fan-made handouts Interactive clues and prop materials 3D digital prop cards Custom cinematic intro videos for campaign chapters Curated battle maps for key locations A balance of tactical scenes and theater-of-the-mind play I strongly prefer using maps intentionally rather than constantly. Investigation, atmosphere, and pacing come first.
Homebrew rules
Primarily standard non-Pulp Call of Cthulhu 7e rules with a few quality-of-life adjustments: Slightly increased starting Luck generation Modest Sanity restoration opportunities between major chapters If the group strongly prefers a more action-oriented experience, I’m open to running the campaign using Pulp Cthulhu rules instead.

How Spagoodlers creates a safe table
We’ll discuss boundaries, tone, and comfort levels during Session Zero and maintain open communication throughout the campaign. Call of Cthulhu often explores disturbing themes including violence, psychological horror, body horror, cult activity, historical prejudice, and existential dread. This will be a mature horror game intended for adults comfortable engaging with those themes in a respectful environment. Everyone is welcome at the table. My priority is maintaining a collaborative, respectful atmosphere where players feel comfortable communicating concerns if they arise. We’ll check in periodically before and after sessions as needed, and any serious issue will be addressed immediately and directly.
