About the adventure

The planar gate lies decimated, provisions run low, and the army of brave heroes that kept the fiends at bay has been reduced to a cowering handful of desperate souls. As one of those souls, you're officially fed up. It's time to show these bastards what you're made of, and maybe even get out of here alive. As one would conclude, this campaign is going to be straight up violent warfare in the Nine Hells. You can expect plenty of vicious enemies, deadly survival encounters, and wicked fatalities! To preface, this is NOT a campaign for newbies nor the faint of heart. Hell is obviously a terrible place, and terrible things happen to those who end up there. There will be gore, torture, depravity, etc. with no punches pulled regarding subject material or combat difficulty. So if you think you can survive what Asmodeus himself has in store for you—or you just really wanna stick it to Big Red—what are you waiting for?

About me

I've had a passion for storytelling for as long as I can remember. As a kid, my favorite passtime was coreographing battle scenes out in the yard with my friends and some well-shaped tree branches. As a teen, I created art, music, and the occasional script for all the narratives running through my head during the banality that was highschool. And as an adult... well I'm a 27-year-old perma-DM who still can't shake my addiction to the chills that come with the dramatic twists and turns of collaborative storytelling! I've been in love with Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition ever since I was introduced to it back in my undergrad. At the time, we had constant weekly games going—all of which were insanely fun but also very chaotic. Now, with a decade of DMing under my belt, I'm proud to say I've learned how to keep that same level of fun but with much better structure!

Character creation

Creating your character

After covering content and conduct, the free session 0 will be dedicated to discussion of team composition and character creation in Roll20. If we run out of time, the remaining players can set up times to meet with me and finish up before the first session. Characters will start at 7th level and finish at 13th level, and will use point buy for stats. Additionally, each character will start with a few magic items, which will be discussed during session 0.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I run my games through Roll20 and Discord, so players will need to have an account for each.

What Evan the Bard brings to the table

My players are sure to have a unique, immersive experience in any game I run! My maps are always custom, my tokens are high quality, I hand-pick music to set the mood, and I love utilizing the lighting and effects in Roll20. I usually have a pretty stick-to-the-rules mindset, but there are always situations where they require a little bending for the sake of fun. My players are always treated fairly and I try my best to keep everything on an even playing field. Most importantly, though, I keep the sessions moving. It's very easy to get bogged down in semantics with such a rules-heavy system, especially with combat, so I pride myself in my ability to reach conclusions and compromises efficiently.

Homebrew rules

I have a plethorah of small, simple tweaks to the system that I find help improve player enjoyment. They're all explained further in my Discord, but here's a quick overview: Hero Points Heroic Action Group Checks Strategic Initiative Flanking Critical Damage Floor Grazing Final Stand Sprinting Leaping For this game, we will also be utilizing some of the Combat Options found on pages 270-273 of the DMG.

Safety

How Evan the Bard creates a safe table

I always send each player a fillable checklist to ensure that they are comfortable with the game's content before our session 0. Then, I make it clear to the group which topics will be off-limits during the session 0, with discussion as needed. Additionally, players are free to send me X, N, Os at any point during the session and I will immediately adjust accordingly.
