About the adventure
The Lost Tales of Mid-World is a dark fantasy D&D 5e campaign inspired by The Dark Tower, The Lord of the Rings, and classic western fantasy. Set in a version of Mid-World before “the world moved on,” the great kingdoms still stand, Gunslingers walk the roads, and the Beams that hold reality together remain unbroken—but shadows gather at the edges of the world. Ancient evils stir beneath forgotten ruins, strange magic leaks into the land, and whispers of the Crimson King spread across the kingdoms of men. Players will travel across vast kingdoms, haunted forests, dying frontiers, and ancient cities inspired by both Tolkien and Stephen King. From the halls of Gilead to isolated villages at the edge of End-World, every road hides mysteries, monsters, and difficult choices. This is a world of long journeys, fellowship, sacrifice, and the slow rise of darkness against fading light. This campaign focuses heavily on immersive roleplay, meaningful character stories, exploration, survival, and cinematic combat. Expect dangerous travel, morally difficult decisions, custom lore, homebrew monsters, overland travel mechanics, and battles where preparation matters as much as strength. Player choices shape the fate of kingdoms, factions, and even the future of Mid-World itself. This game is perfect for players who enjoy rich worldbuilding, serious roleplay, dark fantasy themes, and adventures where the journey matters just as much as the destination. Long days and pleasant nights, adventurer.

About me
I’ve been playing tabletop RPGs for about 8 years, with the last 5 spent mainly as a DM. Most of my experience is with D&D 5e, especially longer campaigns that focus heavily on story, character growth, exploration, and challenging combat. I really enjoy building worlds that feel alive and reactive to the players. I like giving players meaningful choices and creating moments that feel memorable both in and out of combat. My games usually lean toward a more immersive and cinematic style, with a mix of serious storytelling, roleplay, mystery, and tense encounters. I also spend a lot of time creating homebrew content, custom mechanics, and original settings to make each campaign feel unique. A lot of my inspiration comes from darker fantasy settings and character-driven stories. Whether you’re completely new to tabletop games or have years of experience, I try to make my table welcoming, engaging, and fun for everyone involved.

Creating your character
Characters will be created during Session 0, where we’ll work together to build characters that fit naturally into the world and themes of the campaign. I’m happy to help players with mechanics, backstories, subclasses, and tying their characters into the lore, factions, and regions of Mid-World. This is a heavily story-driven game, so character motivations, relationships, and personal goals will matter throughout the campaign. We will be using D&D 5e (2024 rules where applicable) with some homebrew elements and custom mechanics tied to travel, survival, and the setting itself. Characters will begin at Level 5, allowing players to enter the story as capable adventurers already beginning to leave their mark upon Mid-World. Ability scores may be generated using Standard Array, Point Buy, or an optional custom rolling method that we will discuss together during Session 0. Official classes and subclasses are allowed unless discussed otherwise, and homebrew may be approved on a case-by-case basis if it fits the tone and setting. While this world draws inspiration from Tolkien and The Dark Tower, the focus is on grounded dark fantasy, meaningful roleplay, dangerous journeys, and fellowship in the face of growing darkness. Players should create characters who are willing to work together and engage with the story. Mid-World is a dangerous and changing place, and characters who pursue only chaos or constant conflict within the party will not fit the tone of the campaign.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using Foundry VTT hosted through Sqyre for gameplay. Before the campaign begins, I will provide players with a link to the game server as well as an invite to the Discord server we will use for voice chat, announcements, and session communication. No prior Foundry experience is required, and I’m happy to help new players learn the system during Session 0.
What Kylor brings to the table
I bring a heavily immersive and story-focused style of GMing with a strong focus on atmosphere, worldbuilding, and player-driven storytelling. Expect custom lore, detailed maps, ambient music, unique NPCs, homebrew systems, and plenty of secrets hidden throughout Mid-World. I also do character voices (badly), but that has never stopped me before. I put a lot of effort into making the world feel alive and reactive. Player choices matter, actions have consequences, and the story will shift depending on what the party decides to pursue. I enjoy building personal story arcs for characters and weaving backstories directly into the larger narrative of the campaign. Combat encounters are designed to feel cinematic, tactical, and memorable rather than just random fights. I use custom monsters, dangerous travel mechanics, survival systems, and dynamic encounters that reward teamwork and creativity. Some fights will make you feel like heroes. Others will make you realize running away is a valid strategy.
Homebrew rules
I use a handful of homebrew and table rules to help combat and travel feel more cinematic, dangerous, and immersive. Some of the major rules include: A custom overland travel system focused on survival, exploration, tension, and long journeys across Mid-World, Critical hits always deal double maximum damage, Potions can be consumed as a bonus action, Death saves are rolled privately/hidden to increase tension during combat. Additional homebrew mechanics tied to travel, survival, and the setting itself may appear throughout the campaign. Most homebrew is designed to support the tone of the world rather than completely change the core of 5e. Any major rule changes or setting-specific mechanics will always be explained clearly during Session 0 before the campaign begins.

How Kylor creates a safe table
Player comfort and table safety are extremely important to me. During Session 0 we’ll discuss boundaries, themes, and any topics players would prefer to avoid or keep off-screen. I want everyone at the table to feel comfortable communicating concerns openly, whether during or after a session. This is a darker fantasy setting inspired by Tolkien and The Dark Tower, so difficult themes may appear, but I always aim to handle them respectfully and never at the expense of player comfort or enjoyment. If something makes a player uncomfortable, we adjust and move on—no questions asked. Players are always welcome to message me privately before, during, or after sessions if they have concerns, feedback, or topics they’d like handled differently. My goal is to create a welcoming, collaborative table where everyone can enjoy the story, feel respected, and have fun adventuring together. Long days and pleasant nights, adventurer.
