About the adventure
Ajax the Invincible, the Iron Saint, is a ruthless conqueror and dictator bent on ruling the world, and he's well on the way to accomplishing that. While a few pockets resist, most nations and people are either directly under his thumb or subservient to his commands. The world cries out for heroes. This is a game about heroes who fight monsters, including monsters who are people. You'll do lots of other things, but fighting monsters is pretty much non-negotiable. In our first session or two you'll explore the wreckage of a pirate ship and find death or treasure! From there we'll continue a campaign with a central theme - opposing a tyrant - and lots of opportunities for side quests along the way. Draw Steel is a truly unique game. If you're used to sitting idly for 15 minutes waiting for your turn, rolling a die and either hitting or missing, then waiting again, have I got a treat for you! In Draw Steel you always have choices. Your turn always accomplishes something. There are things to do during your allies', and sometimes your enemies' turns. Every moment is like a scene from an action movie. Draw Steel can be played in person or on many virtual tabletops, but the best way to experience it is with the CODEX, a bespoke VTT built just for this game. It's a premium experience, with the drawback that every player normally has to buy the Codex on Steam ($20 while in Early Access, $30 regular price). Lucky for you, I've bought licenses for everyone! Long after this campaign is done, you'll still own your copy of Codex and Draw Steel, and can play in or run games for others. "But I already own Codex" - Cool! It's great to have a player who already knows this amazing new game. Your first session you'll get a $20 discount, since I don't have to buy you a copy!

About me
What I provide: A game that fits your group. A laid-back, friendly approach that welcomes new players. Organization, focus, and online tools to help you tell your story. My intro to d&d was three beige books in a little white box , in 1978. My first hobbit thief was trampled to death by a herd of were-elk. Despite that setback, I persevered and have been DMing, and occasionally playing, ever since. I launched ColoradoGamemaster.com in 2019 to GM professionally in person, just in time for the Great Plague to make that impossible. StartPlaying and online platforms came along at just the right time, allowing me to bring my games to people around the globe.

Creating your character
We'll start with premade characters. After the pirate ship adventure (1-2 sessions) you'll know the game well enough to decide to keep your character, make some minor changes, or create a new one.
The party so far: Hakaan Fury, Revenant Tactician, and possibly a Troubador or Beastheart. If none of that means anything, don't worry! We're very beginner friendly.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
When you join the game I'll send you your Steam key for your own copy of Draw Steel and the Codex; install it. I'll also send a Discord invitation; we use that for voice.
What Keith brings to the table
You'll receive your own copy of Codex which includes the full rules for Draw Steel; this is yours to keep. With this, you can not only play in my games but also set up and run your own Draw Steel games or play in other Directors' Codex games.

How Keith creates a safe table
This game is about surviving in, and hopefully eventually liberating, an oppressive regime. In addition to the expected fantasy violence, there will be elements of horror, despair and hopelessness. You are the light people need. We'll use the Deck of Player Safety to anonymously alert me and each other about topics or situations that need to not appear in the campaign, as well as a red/yellow/green card system you can use to redirect us away from unexpectedly problematic situations.
