About the adventure

Foam surges from around your submarine's sides as it descends beneath the surface. Bells ring as systems come online and the overhead lights dim. Communications with a deep sea research vessel the “Omen” have ceased. The final report via radio from the vessel was as follows: "Ship's log day 91: We continue our search for signs of the entity. A deep trench near 10,000 meters seems to hold the greatest possibility but we have so far refrained from venturing into it due to its extreme depth. Morale is at a low point and unrest seeps through the walls into every corner of our ship. Some crew members describe seeing brightly colored flashing lights around the ship. Recently a diver went missing on a routine equipment check and was never recovered. We had his monitor up until his heart rate fell nearly still, then we lost contact. We have seen creatures at this depth previously undiscovered. With grotesque features and unnatural abilities, they have evolved out of human sight for millennia. There’s no telling what else is down here” Local scientists and investors have contributed an abundance of funds to the operation and they have hired your party to check up on their research vessel to give any assistance they may need. You have a last known position and a map of the general area. It's time to get to work. You will be part of the crew of The Nautiloid, tasked with recovering the Omen and the secrets it discovered. Each player will choose one of the five tasks on your vessel: at the Helm, in the Engine Room, as a Marine, on the Torpedo Turret or as a Biologist.

Character creation

Creating your character

Level 6 Character on DNDBeyond or Roll20, start with 1 uncommon, 3 common magic items and 2000gp to spend on items after your character is created. I am very flexible with character creation. Use any content, including homebrew, as long as it leads to creating a character that fits into the theme. The following are roles, with additional abilities, that each player will pick from. Marine(CON): The Marine can take one of the following actions on their turn in addition to their normal actions. EXO. The marine exits the vessel in their EXO suit. The EXO suit has 50 hit points, it's user is supplied with usable air for 5 turns(is used up at the end of their 5th turn) and gives the Marine a swim speed of 30 feet. Scan. The Marine must be inside the vessel to use this action. Interfacing with the vessel instruments, The Marine send out a radar ping in a 60 foot diameter originating from the vessel. Any creature or object's location within that range shows up on radar. Biologist(INT): The Biologist can take any of the following actions in addition to their normal actions. Identify. The Biologist identifies any creature or object they can see. This identification reveals the creature or object's name/type, hit points and resistances/vulnerabilities. Advise. Targeting one ally, The Biologist gives advantage on the next attack role done by that ally against an Identified creature. Engineer(WIS): The Engineer can use a bonus action on their turn to shovel coal, allowing for the Helmsperson to take movement on their turn (without shoveling coal, the Helmsperson may not use movement on their turn), or Fix a System. They may also take one of the following actions, if on board, in addition to their normal actions. Reverse Thrust. The direction of Nautilus's thrust is reversed Go Silent. The Nautilus suspends operations and becomes hidden if not in sight of a foe. Whenever a creature uses movement within sight of the Nautilus they must make a Perception check to see the vessel. Artillerist(STR): The Artillerist can use an action on their turn, in addition to their normal actions, to fire a torpedo in any direction. The torpedo has a movement of 35ft and takes that movement immediately after being shot or at the end of The Artillerist's turn. Upon impact with an object or creature, it deals 4d8 thunder damage to each object or creature within a 20ft diameter sphere, centered on the torpedo's point of impact. Helmsperson(DEX): The Helmsperson may spend up to the ships movement(X) to execute the following maneuvers, in addition to their normal actions. Travel "X" feet in one direction Spend 25 feet of movement to execute a minor course correction (up to a 45 degree rotation of the vessel) Spend 50 feet of movement to execute a major course correction (up to a 90 degree rotation of the vessel) Spend 50 feet of movement to Ram another object dealing 2d12 bludgeoning damage to the target and 1d6 bludgeoning damage to The Nautilus.
