About the adventure
Strahd Von Zaravich, the lord of the land known as Barovia, has gone missing. And the land knows it. Unchecked by the dark lord and his power, Barovia has become even more of a nightmarish horror. In Strahd's absence, fiefdoms of terror have risen. While the castle known as Ravenloft has gone quiet, the occupants of the land have not. Where once there was an order to things in the villages and forests beyond, unchecked chaos and horror now occupy the land. It is the Vistani, once the favored mortal minions of the dark lord, that have raised the call for aid. No longer tempting the unsuspecting traveller to their doom, they seek those that will help them as their adopted home has become unrecongizable. It is at the crescendo of these events that a new band of wanderers have found their way into the land. Like many before them, their prescense attracts the most unwanted of attention. To escape, they must confront the circumstances of a Barovia without Strahd.

Meet the Game Master
About me
As with every profile, it's a work in progress. Most ttrpg folks have a dice kink. I have a systems kink. I have more books and systems than I'm ever going to be able to play, but I am damn sure gonna try. Here to run games I love and explore games that others do. Want me to run something particular? Let's have a conversation and figure it out.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Prior to our session, I'll be available to help discuss character concepts and provide access to digital tools. In the Session Zero, we'll finally make choices and create characters for all of the players. Pre-Gen characters will also be available for players who are interested.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Watch classic horror movies and new gothic horror movies/tv shows. Also media about accountability, consequences and redemption. We'll be using Alchemy for our VTT and Discord for out of game communication.. You'll need an account with both. For Alchemy: - A free Alchemy account. - A working microphone. - headphones (recommended in case you're playing in an environment where others might hear the game). - a camera is recommended but not required. For Discord: - A free Discord account.
What Johnnie brings to the table
An eye for mature storytelling and a collaborative approach to build our story that fits the group at the table. I will have all of the game material accessible to the players. We’ll be using Alchemy for our VTT, with the core rulebook and additional material available within the game table. We’ll also use Alchemy for our voice communication, with Discord as a backup. This will be a narrative first game filled with story and combat. We'll play with the rule of cool, but won't ignore the rules either.
Homebrew rules
This will be the Barovia that we create, inspired by what’s coming before. Strahd, Ravenloft and the Domains of Dread have a long published history under D&D and WOTC. We’ll be pulling various bits from the published and home-brewed world to combine them into a whole new story and setting.

Safety
How Johnnie creates a safe table
Daggerheart is at its core a collaborative storytelling. How the narrative gets shaped is largely up to the players. So we will discuss safety tools before our game session, set clear limits on where the story will not go and then do a check in after the game. In Discord, we’ll discuss the use safety tools with the following goals: - content warnings and what they mean for the game. - establish lines and veils document for things that are off limits - An X card to acknowledge concerns during the session. - An open door policy, which means that you are free to step away and leave at any time if something doesn't feel right.
