About the adventure

This game is meant to be a good starting point for players new to 5th edition, or those interested in joining a campaign for the first time. Ran in the Foundry VTT, this game uses every helper possible to run games smoothly but also teach players how to use their characters and abilities. Set on the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms, the players can expect a healthy mix of life-threatening combat and deep role-play with the people that live in this world as well as other players. My games run on the rule of cool, and I tend to be very forgiving as a DM, as long as everyones having fun I can and will bend the rules for the sake of keeping the game fun. We will be using the 2014 Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition ruleset, and leveraging DnDBeyond for character management. The players can view in world handouts, and use a combat hud similar to the Baldurs Gate games to further immerse themselves in the world itself.

About me

I've been my friends forever GM since 3.5 and 1e pathfinder and have loved doing it! During Covid, I really started to enjoy playing DnD using Foundry and Roll20, being able to draw up my own maps and tokens without an expensive trip to the game shop. I focus on running official modules and one shots to make things a bit easier while I draw up my own custom campaign based on things that my players enjoy! My style tends to be survival and RP heavy sessions instead of just gathering numbers, and I really enjoy gothic/dark settings. My first question to you as a player will always be "What are you comfortable with and what is a hard limit" to ensure everyone is comfortable and having a fun time, and the end of sessions will most often be me asking for feedback on my performance as a DM so I can always improve. I am also a streamer (a VTuber nonetheless) but sessions will NOT be streamed/recorded without unanimous consent from the group.

Character creation

Creating your character

This will happen during the first session of the campaign, where the players can collaborate on what characters they want to play and any inter-character relationships or backstories they want as a group. This will only feature the core rulebooks to keep character creation simple, and a campaign link will be available to handle character creation on DnDBeyond. All sessions will be handled in my Discord, which a link will also be provided.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Join the Discord for Voice Chat and Game Updates: https://discord.gg/SGpsbATBxr Create your character on DnD Beyond: https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/join/67518844272707514 (Optional) Create your token on Heroforge: https://www.heroforge.com/ (Heroforge is not required, just up to you if you want to make your character for art/token purposes as the model can be bought)

What Maulerant brings to the table

I will provide a virtual table top to show maps and tokens. This has been further developed to have a functional comat hud to simplify and explain combat and keep it fast and engaging. Things like merchants and chests are also interactable with automations built in to keep inventories up to date, rather than waiting on me to hand out equipment on my own, allowing for drag and drop inventories for your character. I will leverage ambient music and sound FX to create further immersion. We also feature minor survival rules, heavy roleplay and combat to keep your characters part of the world as well as subject to their own consequences. We operate on the rule of cool, and I will make sure everyone has cool moments, spotlight and the ability to feel powerful, allowing players to embrace the hero their character can become. I also introduce consequences as I do not railroad, you can do whatever you want and I will react accordingly.

Homebrew rules

No hombrew outside of rule of cool and DM has final approval.

Safety

How Maulerant creates a safe table

I leverage the safety tools plugin and will explain how it works. This allows players to start and stop at will, skip encounters that are too much, or keep me accountable with a rewind feature if they want to ever try an encounter again. My DM's are also forever open to my players and I keep myself available for scheduled calls if a one on one is needed. I will keep the table safe and secure and will work with my players to maintain this.
