About the adventure

The setting of Mythic Bastionland is very flexable, and nothing will be set in stone until we start building our characters. Most of the Hex Map used for the game will be built with the character's backstory in mind. The struggles which your knight must overcome will be based on the myths that are rolled at the start of the game. The most unique thing about this campaign will be that the world is creeping towards it's end. I'll be incorporating my own version of the Mork Borg Psalms System in order to bring the world towards a firey conclusion. As the signs of the apocalypse make themselves known, the Knights will see the world and population change. I hope that this soft timer puts some exciting intensity onto the choices of the Knights.

About me

I'm an English educator who has been in love with tabletop games since high school. I enjoy the Game Master role because it lets me take advantage of the various storytelling and world building techniques I have built up both in my education and personal life. I try to be the person who works hard ahead of time so that others can have a great experience. I think my main goal when GMing is to create a memorable and meaningful experience for my players.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will be done during session 0. An important part of Mythic Bastionland is the massive random table of possible knights that you can play as. You will be rolling to see which knight you play as, not choosing.

What Brian Espinosa brings to the table

As a GM there are a few things I consider important to running a quality game. 1. Playing to find out what happens. I never plan out the player's solutions to the problems characters face. The fun of these games is creating a story together, and I want to give you all that freedom to help decide where the story goes. 2. Vibes. I do my very best to match the vibe of the group. This helps set the tone of my games. I've run everything from serious games where almost all conversation is in character, to games in which everyone is laughing every 10 minutes. 3. The Rule of Cool. These games are all about creative problem solving. I always embrace creative player ideas and find a fair way to make them work because I know how great that feels as a player. Swing from chandeliers, cast a spell in a weird way, and try your best to convince the villain of whatever you like. Let’s worry more about telling a good story than following the rules.

Homebrew rules

The main homebrew rule that we will be using is the Mork Borg Pslams System. Basically, at the end of each session we will roll to see if enough time has passed that an event which portents the end of the world takes place. Once enough of these portents have been rolled, the world ends. I'm hoping that each portent will cause wide shifts in the world, helping it feel more alive and putting the pressure on the PCs to save their people. I prefer this system to a strict session or in fiction timer because it allows for flexability without being annoying to track.

Safety

How Brian Espinosa creates a safe table

I like to use Stars and Wishes for easy and clear player feedback. I also encourage players to send me their Lines and Veils so that we can keep people feeling comfortable and safe. Finally, if a player ever does feel uncomfortable with what's happening, please feel free to send me an X and we will resolve the uncomfortable situation.
