About the adventure

The mists are calling. Enter Barovia, a land of Gothic horror, cursed souls, and a tyrant who watches from the shadows. This campaign uses Curse of Strahd as its foundation, expanded with the acclaimed Reloaded community rework and new material from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. Expect a serious horror-driven campaign with dread, tragedy, and difficult choices, but also moments of levity, camaraderie, and dark humour to break the tension. Fear matters here. Using custom Stress & Fear mechanics, terror leaves lasting scars... or, if your characters endure, those scars may harden into permanent Virtues. What I bring as your GM: • Premium Foundry VTT experience with automation & QoL enhancements • High-quality immersive maps • Curated music, ambience, and soundboard integration • Strong roleplay focus with immersive narration and amateur voice acting • Character-driven personal quests woven into the main story • Challenging tactical combat with dynamic objectives beyond “reduce HP to 0” • Meaningful player agency that shapes the world If you want grim atmosphere, memorable roleplay, dangerous combat, and a version of Curse of Strahd that leans hard into horror and immersion, this may be your table.

About me

Greetings and well met! I am GM Zev, but most people who know me just call me Sash. I have been playing RPG's for most of my life in one form or another. My joy for roleplaying was really sparked back in '02 when Bioware released their most ambitious game yet; Neverwinter Nights! Through this game and others, I learned about the wonderful world of imagination that is D&D. Since then I have played and run numerous games across multiple systems. My favourite system by far is 5E and it's Forgotten Realms setting. I have accrued a deep library of knowledge for the setting and love crafting stories grounded in the world of Toril. Recently I have branched out into other worlds, discovering amazing settings like Ravenloft, Exandria, Runeterra, and so many more that I am excited to explore.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will take place during Session 0 and I ask that players come in with no more than a basic concept or build in mind that will be further fleshed out in the days and weeks leading up to the Campaign Start. I will be working with players individually to craft a compelling personal quest or motivation for travelling to the lands of Barovia, as well as creating supporting NPCs from your backstory that may be referenced or make an appearance during the campaign. Most WotC content will be allowed as long as it can be narratively justified within the setting. I am open to published Third Party content, subject to my approval. Personal or unpublished homebrew will not be considered, but flavour is free. Characters will start at level 1 with the introductory arc likely landing players at level 3 before the adventure proper begins.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I would like players to please have a clear microphone with little to no background noise when possible, preferably using toggle-mute or push-to-talk. A decent computer that is able to handle the performance requirements for FoundryVTT and a stable connection. Although I have a very fast connection and use a dedicated hosting service for my games, I am still located in Australia, which may affect bandwidth at times. Most importantly; A willingness to lean into roleplay and the horror themes. You don’t need to be an actor or play your character as constantly afraid, but I do hope for players to be willing to suspend their disbelief, engage with the atmosphere, and let their choices take them somewhere unexpected.

Safety

How Sash creates a safe table

Although the game will feature many adult themes, X cards and pre-game questionnaires will be used to limit triggering subjects. Romance, unrequited love, and abuse are themed within the story, but I make an effort to fade-to-black before things get too graphic.
