About the adventure
Homebrew setting of Riparia, on its southern peninsula, home to two very different cities across the bay from one another: Branté, a plains-dwelling agrarian collective made up of hearty folk, and Hartland, mountain-dwellers obsessed with status and wealth. There is an initial level 1-5 plot that is about delving into the ruins of a sunken city. From there, the story expands to a long journey to deliver magical artifacts to its rightful place, with the hopes of repairing a magical rift that's opened the sky. This game is designed for both first-time players and veterans, slowly building friendships and testing how far you're all willing to go for a chance at redemption. If I had to define a theme, it would entail how the meta of a TTRPG narrative can compel the player to simply "go to location" at the behest of the GM. But what happens when your character has a different motivation? What if you believe that the world doesn't need saving simply because the rules are now different? How do you trust a character who you know is only out for themselves? There are dramatic turns and comedic moments built into the story and dozens of unique characters to interact with. I try to balance the combat and the role-playing 50/50, though how deeply you want to engage in either will depend on your group dynamics. While this adventure is setup as a journey from point A to B, I am more than willing to entertain going completely off the rails. I have an entire world for you to explore and can accommodate whatever direction you, as a party, would like to take your story.

About me
Game Master for 6 years on Roll20, AlchemyRPG, as well as in-person. It is my absolute favorite thing to do in this world. My goal is to create an unforgettable experience that we can carry into our real lives. The characters we make tell the story about who we are. Through collaborative storytelling, we make each other braver, wiser, and, ultimately, kinder. I truly believe that TTRPG can be a powerful tool to help heal wounds. I would like to spread that belief as far and wide as I can. More than anything, I hope you'll allow me to work with you to tell a great story that will be remembered for years to come. 💗

Creating your character
This campaign will use Milestone leveling, starting with a typical Point Buy for character creation. We'll begin at level 1, quickly leveling to 5 through the first part of the campaign. From there, we'll be steadily leveling up to 20. Characters will be created before session 1, either during a session 0 or off-camera, with the guidance of the GM. I will also be sending out an initial survey to gauge what the group is looking to get out of the game, establish boundaries, and learn about character ideas for discussions. As far as I'm concerned, nothing is off the table regarding your characters unless it disrupts or disrespects the other players in the party.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
It's truly what everyone's comfortable with. I am mostly familiar with Roll20 and AlchemyRPG. Both have built-in communications to keep it simple, unless there's a reason to default to Discord, which I am happy to accommodate.
What Travis brings to the table
There will be as much media as I can cram in! I plan on doing character voices, describing combat moments, playing ambient/battle music, using on-screen special effects, creating custom character portraits and tokens via HeroForge, custom maps via Inkarnate, ready-made maps from Czepeku, or using Czepeku's modular map maker. I defer to the rules to have a base to work from, but am always open to player creativity; if it enhances the story and experience (and doesn't break the world) let's do it!
Homebrew rules
I do prefer having drinking a potion as a bonus action, as well as having a critical hit against the player result in disabling a limb/eyesight/hearing until they have had a long rest.

How Travis creates a safe table
I like to send out a survey to determine not only what characters the players have in mind, along with their motivations, but also where their boundaries are. It also helps to establish rules. For example, if a single player is unable to make the session, we will continue as normal. If more than one player is unable to make it, we will postpone until the following week or whenever everyone is next available. I tend to address ongoing issues after the session is complete, via a one-on-one chat with the "problem player(s)". Determining whether it is an in-game issue or otherwise will determine how we resolve matters.
