About the adventure
Two long days since you left Mulptan and the comforts of the bustling trade city. You have passed by bogs and swamps choked in silence and rot. Suffered gruelling rains that only the warmth of ones home could dry. Despite the foul weather, the Caravan has maintained good spirits trading in stories that you are sure to share for years to come. As you near the top of the valley a low fog builds, swallowing the road behind you. Just Ahead, jutting far above the impenetrable woods, are two fractured buttresses looming grey in the dense air. Welcome to Barovia, a gothic horror campaign where hope is but a whisper in the wind. Explore iconic locations through beautifully rendered battle maps and hand crafted vistas. Enjoy an atmospheric environment experienced through hand picked audio tracks and soundscapes. Use modern software to improve and automate combat flow, making the emphasis on describing the snap of a bow instead of the rules of a saving throw. Join this open world sandbox where behind every corner is a story or a potential deadly threat. Prepare yourself for horror, prepare yourself for anguish and prepare yourself for the Curse of Strahd. note - This will be my 4th time running Curse of Strahd you are guaranteed a high level of quality with what I hope will be one of the most memorable dnd experiences yet.

About me
Hi, I'm a 34 year old male from New Zealand. I've been running DND campaigns consistently for about 6 years and embrace what modern VTT's have brought to the hobby. I'm an easy going gm that will facilitate my players and streamline the admin to keep the focus on the narrative. I'm a sucker for a bit of grim dark and more mature themes but know when to keep things light and fun. I love a good book, work as a 3d artist and can't wait to become part of a really great community.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation will be done together, using session zero to establish and collaborate on ideas, then finalising the characters art tokens and stories with the time gap between the first session. I will make myself available over discord to help with questions about the world and to help and implement portrait/token art. I intend to use dnd's point buy system and am flexible on character ideas, the use of dnd beyond is welcome and I have the official books in foundry so characters can be made in the software itself if desired.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Player's will receive a player primer detailing the world and letting them discover the setting through the provided information. Having a working discord account will be necessary and a foundry server will be hosted with player access made accessible by web link. Player preparation will come down to the individual, players who want to go in depth in the lore, make extra token or portrait art, learn foundry in depth, customize spell animations will be encouraged and facilitated to do so. However sessions will be designed to run with minimal friction with a focus being on the story telling instead of mathematics so players will be able to turn up to a session knowing things will run smoothly with minimal effort. As the DM and long time foundry user I will ensure the software side of things works smoothly and seamlessly but players will be required to have access to discord and have a stable internet connection.
What dinnerBox brings to the table
This campaign will provide an extremely detailed and highly atmospheric world. As a enthusiast in the lore, you can expect a rich and detailed history, where NPC's have strong and complex motives. With both ambient and musical tracks designed to breath tension into every session, with a focus on classical and orchestral numbers. NPC's will be expressed with a wide range of well rehearsed voices, while every location will be represent by beautiful vistas and expansive battle maps for exploration. Combat will be hard hitting and fast paced, with the use of foundry VTT automation to to keep the sessions moving swiftly. You can expect a gritty realism to the sessions with food and water, exhaustion, weather, injuries, all playing a role in the mechanics and sense of immersion. The rule of cool however will always be encouraged and while this campaign will by no means be a walk in the park the core storytelling will ALWAYS be the primary focus.

How dinnerBox creates a safe table
Session Zero will be a free session that outlines the expectations for the campaign. It will touch on the themes for the setting and what can be expected going forward, it will outline social expectations from both the players and the GM to insure the enjoyment for everyone. I will be available during working hours over a personal discord to answer questions or concerns that players may have and will always work to resolve and coordinate with players to better the experience for all. The sessions will include breaks and an open door policy to keep sessions moving and give people the chance to take a breather if need be. DND is a collaborative experience, I always welcome suggestions and aim to both encourage and challenge my players.
