About the adventure

GMed by the official composer of the Legend in the Mist soundtrack, with original music and atmospheric soundscapes woven throughout every session. A fully prepared Foundry VTT setup. No prior experience with the system needed. Wake of the Oldways is the first act of Hearts of Ravensdale, an epic campaign for Legend in the Mist, a beautifully written, rules-light narrative RPG rooted in rustic fantasy and folklore. You’ll play ordinary people from humble beginnings: farmers, herbalists, village defenders, and wanderers, drawn into a mystery that grows larger than any of them imagined. The party is currently partway through the first adventure, A Shadow in the Barley. Anyone who wants to continue is guaranteed a spot in the next adventure, and so on through all seven. The full campaign spans spring, summer, and into fall, following one continuous story as you travel the Dales, help your neighbours, uncover a forgotten history, and piece together the greater danger threatening everything you know. This is a game about community, mystery, and the weight of the past. Combat exists but is not the focus. Expect investigation, roleplay, meaningful choices, and a world that feels genuinely alive. The tone sits somewhere between cozy and foreboding: warm village hearths, misty moorlands, and the creeping sense that something ancient is watching. Just bring a love of storytelling and a willingness to play someone ordinary in an extraordinary situation.

About me

Hi, I’m Ian! I’m a narrative-focused GM, the creator of Tabletop RPG Music (where I compose original music specifically for use at the table), and part of the in-house team developing Ember for Foundry VTT. I’ve been running games for years across a bunch of systems, always chasing strong story beats, memorable NPCs, and character arcs that actually go somewhere. My background in writing and music shapes a lot of my approach... and I’m also a regular at my local improv class, which means I love reacting in the moment and letting scenes twist in fun, unexpected ways based on player choice. Whether you’re brand new or a long-time player, you’ll get a friendly, welcoming table where your character’s choices genuinely influence the world we’re shaping together. If you’re looking for a GM who blends creativity, cinematic moments, and a polished virtual setup, I’d love to run a game for you! Shout out to CzePeku Scenes for the Banner art.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll handle character creation together in session zero, before the first proper adventure begins. Everything takes place in Foundry VTT and I'll walk you through the process step by step, no need to read the rulebook in advance or prepare anything beforehand. Legend in the Mist characters are built around who your character is as a person rather than a class or stat block, so the process is more like collaborative storytelling than traditional character building. Plan for session zero to take around an hour.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

No preparation needed before session zero. Just have a working browser ready for Foundry VTT, a microphone, and join the Discord server using the link provided after booking. I'll handle everything else when we get together for session zero.

What Ian brings to the table

Original music and atmospheric soundscapes. I am the official composer for Legend in the Mist, and every session will be scored with original tracks written specifically for this world. The Dales have their own sound, and you'll feel it. A fully prepared Foundry VTT experience. Custom maps, ambient audio tied to specific locations, and everything tested and ready before each session. You'll never wait around while I fumble for the right scene. A narrative-first approach to GMing. Legend in the Mist is a story-driven game and I run it that way. The focus is on character, atmosphere, and meaningful choices rather than tactical combat. Expect rich NPC interactions, a world that reacts to what you do, and plenty of room to roleplay. NPCs with distinct voices and personalities. Every named character will feel like a real person with their own concerns, loyalties, and secrets. The Dales are full of people worth knowing. Session recaps and Discord between sessions. I'll post a short recap after each session so nobody has to remember everything, and I'm around on Discord for questions or character chat between games.

Homebrew rules

Legend in the Mist is a narrative, rules-light system with very little mechanical crunch, so there isn't much to homebrew. We'll follow the rules as written and let the story lead.

Safety

How Ian creates a safe table

In session zero, I'll send a link to a short lines and veils form - a quick way to flag any topics you'd rather avoid or keep off-camera. Responses are confidential, and you can fill it in privately rather than discussing in a group. At the table, we'll use Script Change. Anyone can type "rewind" in chat to undo a scene that went somewhere uncomfortable, "fast forward" to skip past something without playing it out, or "pause" if you need a break. No explanation needed, ever.
