About the adventure

Have you ever wanted to play DnD but never tried, or were discouraged that it may be too complicated? Allow me to help guide you through all the mess and have fun while playing. I love teaching new players the game, and we will go over everything you need to know in a fun and relaxed way. The Lost Mines of Phandelver is especially designed for newcomers to get familiar with the game, and opens you up to a world filled with adventure, danger, wonderful characters, and endless decisions for you and your party to make and impact the world around you. You could play this campaign a dozen times, and each time the story could be completely different because the choices and actions of you and your group have a direct effect on the world around them. Befriend goblins? Sure! Lead a rebellion? Absolutely! Take the place of the Big Bad Guy and start your own evil empire? You can certainly try! All that matter is we have fun along the way.

About me

I grew up playing loads of board games, party games, and various tabletop games, and in 2020 I started playing and GMing DnD consistently with friends. Since then, I have enjoyed bringing new friends into the fold and run several games for a handful of different friend groups. I love to teach new players the game and enjoy seeing players dive into their character, groups creatively solving problems, and navigating the story we're creating together.

Character creation

Creating your character

I will host a free session 0 to go over character creation, how to use and navigate Roll20. Roll20's character interface does a good job of taking this step by step, but I will help with more in depth explanations and discuss what the different terminologies mean and their importance to the game. We will start at level 1, and I do not hold any restrictions on the kind of character you want to play as.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I use Discord for video and communication, and Roll20 for the campaign. Before session 0 I will send out links to both my discord and Roll20 accounts. And during session 0, if anyone is new to either accounts/websites, I will also help in learning how to use them.

What Dick brings to the table

I have over six years of Game Mastering experience, and have been using Roll20 that entire time. We will have campaign maps, and I have several other compendiums that provide a larger array of character choices for you to choose from. I particularly love doing character voices, and I run Rule of Cool, so long as it is fairly balanced.

Safety

How Dick creates a safe table

During our session 0, we will go over safety tools to help everyone feel comfortable while playing the game. We will use the lines and Veils tool to help us stay away from content that is unwanted. If there is any content that the group does not want, those are lines. Veils are things that we are ok with, but only to a point. One of my personal Veils is explicit sexual content. If that comes up in game, I will use the fade to black method after a point to ensure that everyone feels comfortable in the game. You can try to seduce the Dragon, but I am not going to describe the details if you manage it. This game will have an open door policy. If at any time during a session someone needs to step away, for any reason, that is fine. I just ask that people be respectful and only do so when absolutely necessary, so that we can all continue to play without too many disruptions. I am happy to have a break about mid way through each session if the group would like. I find that it helps to have a point that players know is coming up, so that everyone can take care of anything they need to do then, instead of randomly through out the session. There are other tools that we will go over with everyone in our first session.
