About the adventure
The train sways as it pulls into Gravesend station. The doors slide open and the stale night air washes over you. High rise commercial buildings and a multi-storey car park loom over the station, streets lit with stark artificial light, alleys dark and foreboding. Late commuters hurry home, eyes down, tired and nervous. More so than normal. There’s something in the air. The place feels… different. Like it’s waiting for something. You look up at the top of the car park. There’s a soft glow, flickering like candlelight. The meeting place. They told you King would be there, ready to give you what you deserved. Ready to give you back the night. You feel the excitement rising in your chest, even though your heart stopped beating a long time ago. They took everything from you. Now it’s time to take it all back. One Night in Gravesend is a short Vampire the Masquerade campaign designed to introduce the Kent By Night chronicle. It’s ideal for new players who want to try out Vampire and experienced players who want to test a new setting. Take pre-generated characters through one tumultuous night in Gravesend, learning how vampires survive the modern nights while navigating deadly politics, ancient monsters, and the constant threat of being discovered for what you truly are: a monster. If you want a dark and gritty game about monsters hiding beneath modern Britain, where your choices shape the setting itself, then this is the game for you.

About me
My father introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons in 1987 and I've been playing and running games ever since. There's something about the storytelling and world-building that just keeps me coming back for more. My idea of relaxation is sketching maps, designing encounters, and coming up with compelling narrative arcs. I'm a professional writer and games designer with a love for crafting experiences through narrative and engagement. I've played and run multiple games and editions over the years, developing an ability to run for any theme or genre and a love of each and every one of them. I prefer narrative, meaningful games with worlds that react to the players choices.

Creating your character
I'll provide pre-generated characters for this adventure. Players will choose from a selection of outcast vampires forgotten by their own society, each one a tragic example of the inherent prejudice of their twisted society. Each has an agenda for this fateful night, each has their part to play, and each has a legacy on the nights to come. Just come to the game and choose whichever one suits you best. If you love this campaign and you decide to move to my Kent by Night game then you can either carry this character across, or create your own as you embark on your takeover of the Kent domain.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a discord account - I'll send you a link to our server and then a link to Foundry VTT where I'll host the games. I use discord with video for myself, but there's no pressure to use anything other than audio when we play. I use Foundry VTT for maps, NPC images, and storing key information.
What Grantt brings to the table
I use Foundry VTT to create an ambient setting, including visuals and music. My in game maps and NPCs are full of secrets to be discovered, and your actions will impact the world around you. I use accents sparingly, both to avoid any. potential offence and to keep a fairly sombre tone. That being said, I'm not against moments of comedy or banter at the table - I'm British after all.
Homebrew rules
I'm an advocate of enjoyment being more important than rules, but I try to keep things as close to the system as possible.

How Grantt creates a safe table
I provide a free session 0 to make sure that we all know each others boundaries and what to expect from the game. I also use x cards, delivered via DM, to make sure that no player feels pushed out or upset during my games. Vampire is a heavy game with some truly dark themes, so I expect my players to approach it with maturity and respect for each other. The game includes lots of things I don't personally agree with, like racism and homophobia - opinions that my non player characters might have are expressly not my opinions, and many are there to be challenged and defeated.
