About the adventure

In the depths of the Abyss, something has gone terribly, impossibly wrong. The endless cacophony of chaos has begun to quiet. Jagged landscapes smooth into symmetry. Screaming hordes fall silent as a strange, radiant harmony spreads across the darkness. Whispers speak of angels descending not as conquerors, but as saviors: offering peace, redemption, and an end to suffering. But in a realm defined by its defiance of order, such “mercy” is not salvation. It is annihilation. And if the Abyss can be tamed… what will follow? The laws of belief themselves buckle as the Great Wheel begins to turn against its own nature. Whispers echo through tavern and temple alike: someone... or something... is sowing the multiverse with contradiction. This mini-campaign takes place across a corrupted layer of the Abyss, where the influence of Mount Celestia has begun to bleed through a catastrophic planar breach. Dispatched from Sigil as an expeditionary force on behalf of the Fated, players take on the role of specialists — mercenaries, fiends, scholars, operatives — tasked with investigating and containing this unprecedented incursion. As celestial forces attempt to impose order and redemption upon a fundamentally chaotic plane, the environment itself begins to shift... warping reality, allegiance, and identity alike. Across four tightly paced sessions, players will navigate a morally inverted crisis where “good” is not necessarily right, and preserving evil may be the only way to save existence itself. Expect intense combat, surreal environments, and difficult choices as you confront forces that seek to rewrite the nature of reality. This campaign encourages darker character concepts and explores themes of balance, corruption, and cosmic necessity—culminating in a final decision that could reshape not just the Abyss, but the entire multiverse. 🔥 Save Evil, Save Everything In a multiverse built on balance, even damnation has a purpose. When goodness goes too far, it’s up to the worst of the worst to set things right. 😇 Heaven Is the Problem Angels descend not as warriors, but as redeemers. And their mercy is rewriting reality. Can you stop salvation before it erases everything? 🩸 The Abyss, Unmade Demons change. Chaos quiets. The impossible becomes inevitable as the Abyss itself begins to stabilize. And that’s far more terrifying than any horde. ⚖️ Morality Turned Inside Out This is a story where right and wrong collapse under cosmic truth. Make brutal choices, forge uneasy alliances, and decide what must survive... even if it shouldn’t.

About me

Hi, I’m Brandon! I’ve been playing TTRPGs for 20 years... well, really much longer than that if you include tiny cameos in my dad's games in the 90's! 😆 But yes, I've been playing D&D since 3rd Edition, and DMing for the better part of 10 years now. I enjoy playing other systems, as well as modifying the D&D system to fit nontraditional settings. I have a degree in game design with a focus on level design, technical art, and environment art. With that comes a passion for mechanics and design, for crafting challenges and encouraging creative gameplay... and also for being surprised when emergent play catches you off-guard. I’m currently running two longform D&D campaigns on Roll20/Discord.

Character creation

Creating your character

🧙 We will have time before this mini-campaign starts to discuss your expectations, preferences, playstyle, and also the specifics of character creation. We'll work together to craft your character in a way that ensures they fit the theme and tone of the campaign. 😈 Characters should be motivated to save the Abyss from an incursion by celestials from the upper planes. Whether your character is inherently evil or aligned with demons, or they are cosmically-aware enough to understand the importance of maintaining balance in the Outer Planes... they should have a clear understanding of why this task is important. 🦸 Keep in mind that your character shouldn't just fit the genre and setting, but also the adventuring group too! They should have a clear reason for adventuring and working together with the rest of the party to achieve common goals. 🎲 You may roll your stats once during our Session Zero together if you’d like, then choose between those stats or Standard Array/Point Buy. 📚 We will be using the 2024 Dungeons & Dragons core rulebooks. Characters will be created online on D&D Beyond. Joining the D&D Beyond campaign will grant players access to the main books in use for character creation: the 2024 Player's Handbook and Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse. ❗ Other officially published 5th Edition sourcebooks may be used, but no Unearthed Arcana, homebrewed materials, or third party sources.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have accounts on Discord and Roll20, and preferably D&D Beyond to access the shared content and various other tools. Once you've signed up for the campaign, you'll be provided with links to join our groups on each of those services. If you are playing on mobile, you will want to download apps for these services.

What Brandon // Arcadelor brings to the table

My games are always centered around story at the heart of everything. I bring a high level of focus on the players and their heroes, and a metric ton of care. I prep a lot, but I don't prep many specifics. I like to create challenges without knowing how (or even IF) the players will solve them. I prepare problems, I don't prepare solutions. I approach every session of every game I run from the perspective that I am primarily there to help you tell the story that you want to tell. Oh, and I try to bring some pretty cool bells and whistles too! 🎮 Roll20 VTT with high-quality maps, custom tokens, unique overlays, and dynamic lighting! 📚 Access to all the rulebooks needed to play! 🗺️ Tailor-made battle maps and location maps created with Dungeondraft, Photoshop, and Inkarnate. Plus maps from a variety of other online creators! 💬 Community Discord server, including Avrae bot integration for ease-of-use and multiple text/voice channels to capture all the needs of the campaign! 🎧 Immersive ambience and music using KenkuFM bot to stream from Spotify, Syrinscape, Tabletop Audio, and more! 🎲 Dimension 20 Box of Doom with a secondary Dice Cam for high stakes rolls! 📜 Custom handouts, effects overlays, and graphic design elements!

Homebrew rules

✨ Heroic Inspiration: We use the Heroic Inspiration system, and beyond anything done to earn them in-game, each PC will begin every session with Heroic Inspiration. We will discuss the possibility of other homebrew rules during Session Zero, and as the campaign unfolds. I am generally accepting of homebrew rules that make sense.

Safety

How Brandon // Arcadelor creates a safe table

We will be using Lines & Veils, and be discussing/bringing that document together during Session Zero so that all players are included. I provide aftercare with an open door policy, and by making myself available for at least 15 minutes before and after every game session to speak publicly or privately. I allow for X-cards to be messaged privately or called out over voice/video at any time. I also prefer to employ debriefing and Stars & Wishes for as many players as would like to engage on that level.
