About the adventure
Welcome to the Scattered Realms! This oceanic world is scattered with islands with fantastical ecosystems. Some are dark and dangerous, others are bustling centers of commerce, and many have dragons. This setting is my own (homebrewed), so no experience is required. If you are familiar with fantasy tropes and like dragons, you will have fun here. This is a episodic campaign, which means that there will be a new adventure every two or three sessions. Some sessions may even be like a one shot. This will allow you to miss when life gets busy while your friends can continue to play. I use safety tools like green cards, lines and veils, and post-session check-ins so that if something is upsetting or gory, I can make sure everyone is comfortable. The theme is dragons. I am hoping to surprise you with dragons you may not have experienced, interesting dragon focused conflicts, and a chance to say you actually fought a dragon while playing Dungeons and Dragons!

About me
I have been DMing for 6 years. I love the creative and collaborative nature of this game and I love being surprised by players every session. World building is the name of my game, so bring characters that want to be immersed in my original worlds.

Creating your character
We will make level 10 characters using DnD 5.5e (2024) rules. If you are interesting in homebrew/unofficial/5e rules to build your character, let me know and we will cooperate to make something that works for the table. Stats are determined by rolling or point buy - dealers choice. At session 0 come with 1-3 character ideas so that we can find where and how your character fits into the world and with the party. I encourage you to think about dragon lineages/classes/feats, but it is not a requirement. I can also help you build your character if you are new or need help. I need a copy of your character sheet before session 1.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a discord account and a mic. Webcams are optional. We will do a session 0 together (for free) where we will discuss how to build characters, home brew rules, safety tools, and other housekeeping items. In order to fully discuss safety tools, please fill out the lines and veils checklist that I will send you when you sign up for a game.
What WhysteriaDragon brings to the table
I am lore heavy world builder, but you don't need to know all of it to enjoy the game. As the DM, I am the bad guys and I am trying to kill you through them, but I am also your allies and am trying to support you through them. As an episodic game, you may not see the consequences of your actions immediately, but the world is being updated through your successes and failures. I tend to keep to rules as written, but rule of cool has a place. I use character voices and digital maps.
Homebrew rules
I use a modified resurrection rule set so that resurrection gets more difficult the more your character has died. Drinking a potion is a bonus action, but it is a full action to give it to someone else. I am open to more home brew rules if you/the group are in favor of them. I reserve the right to make the monsters cooler!

How WhysteriaDragon creates a safe table
I use lines and veils. For those who are new to it: a line is a topic we do not approach while a veil is something that can be mentioned but won't be focused on. I will provide a checklist for players before our session 0. I've included topics that will be included in this game in the content warnings. If any of these topics are lines for you, this might not be the game for you. These are common tropes in dragon adventures. Take a look to see if I have a different game that fits your needs! I also use the x, n, and o cards. These are texted either in the group chat, DMs, or spoken aloud in voice chat. X cards mean that something is upsetting and game play needs to stop. I will check in with you and we may rewind/retcon what happened so that everyone feels safe. N means nearing a problematic place. I will pause and check in with you so that we can steer the game away from the problematic place. I may ask for check-ins, which is where the O card comes in. If you play the O card, that means you are doing "ok". After each session, I send some feedback questions (sometimes called stars and wishes) so that you can let me know what parts you liked, what didn't work, and what you want more of. When there is time, I do like to decompress after a session and chat, but there isn't always time to do this in voice chat, so I encourage players to take advantage of text chat.
