About the adventure

Manaheim is a setting that takes inspiration from elements of Warhammer, Discworld and adventure video games like Diablo, Dark Souls and Deathtrap Dungeon. Expect a balance of action and grit offset by a dry sense of humour. You are part of a crew preparing an expedition in Manaheim, a city decimated by the impact of a comet and the following civil war over its rare Magicite payload. In the aftermath of the city's destruction, the streets and under-network are roamed by warring gang-factions, transformed monstrosities and the hunters who would see Manaheim brought back to order. You will decide the party's origins and mission during session zero; do you represent one of the city's warring factions; the brutal Rock Crushaz, the cultish Communion Eternal, the ever-battling Hunters or the freakish Circus of Curiosity? Or are you a band of outsiders plundering the rare and valuable Magicite for your own purposes? Whatever you choose, there will be opportunities, and consequences. Manaheim is an equal-opportunity city: There is a grave for everyone. No generative AI is used or will be used during this campaign.

About me

Hello! I'm Matt, a creative and versatile GM that strikes a balance between system-consistency and expressive storytelling. I have been running and playing Daggerheart since its initial playtest and I'm active in local and global communities. I have a background in teaching and community which comes across in my GM style.

Character creation

Creating your character

During session zero, we will explore the setting of Manaheim and work together to determine the origins and goals of the party. In the collaborative spirit of Daggerheart, the story of this short campaign is not written. It will be created based on the imaginations and decisions of the players and GM, and prepared for each session. Characters will be created at level 2, using Heart of Daggers as a free character creation tool. The process will be fully guided and collaborative. There are no restrictions around role balance, everyone should play the character that they envision and embrace any complications or simplicity that comes with the choice. No generative AI may be used during this campaign. If AI tools are found to be used in creating any images or text, you may be removed from the table.

The current party

There are no rules for party makeup; a balanced Tank, Healer, Damage-dealer and Utility makeup is fine, but an entire party of Sorcerers or Goblins can also inspire an interesting story! This is a short-term campaign, so we do not need to take a very long-term approach to character development and can enjoy being silly for a while if we choose to.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To be fully prepared, you should have a Roll20 account. Dice-rolling will be done using Roll20's dice roller. A method of note-taking is optional, but preferred.

What Matt brings to the table

I like to put a lot of effort into my games on Roll20. Expect curated battle maps, clear tokens and music to help immerse you in the setting. I try to exemplify Daggerheart's core tenets; know the rules well, so that you know when and how to bend them for the benefit of the story.

Homebrew rules

I typically play rules-as-written by default, with plentiful opportunities to flavour and flex to tell a great story.
