About the adventure

Imprisoned aboard an imperial cruiser, the noble woman known as the Lady Blackbird wonders if her cover is blown. After making a daring escape from an arranged marriage, the Lady Blackbird left the Imperial world of Ilysium aboard a smuggler skyship. That ship, the Owl, is bound for the independent settlement of Haven and points beyond in the Remnants. It is in the Remnants that she hopes to find a lead on the trail to her ex-lover, the Pirate King. While the Owl is en route to Haven, they are overtaken by an Imperial cruiser known as the Hand of Sorrow. Now locked in its brig, the Lady Blackbird must put her life into the hands of the infamous smuggler Cyrus Vance and his crew to once again escape the iron grip of the Imperium. But does the captain of the Hand of Sorrow know who they're really holding? And who is the real prize: The Noble or the Smuggler?

About me

As with every profile, it's a work in progress. Most ttrpg folks have a dice kink. I have a systems kink. I have more books and systems than I'm ever going to be able to play, but I am damn sure gonna try. Here to run games I love and explore games that others do. Want me to run something particular? Let's have a conversation and figure it out.

Character creation

Creating your character

Pre-Generated Characters will be provided for this gaming experience. These pre-gens are part of the framework of the game, but allow for a lot of flexibility in storytelling. If you are an experienced player of the game, I’m open to discussing an option of creating your own character.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Watch Space Opera films. Watch films and tv about seeking freedom from oppressive governments and rigid societies. Read novels about star crossed lovers seeking the freedom to choose who the love… We'll be using Alchemy for our VTT, including for voice communication. Discord will also be utilized for pre-game coordination AND as a backup for voice communication. You’ll need a free account for both and potentially need to download the apps (if you haven’t already). For Alchemy: - A free alchemy account. - Download the App. Alternatively, a compatible browser that works with Alchemy (Firefox is recommended). For Discord: - A free discord account. - A working microphone. - Headphones (recommended in case you're playing in an environment where others might hear the game). - A camera is recommended but not required.

What Johnnie brings to the table

I’ll bring you a story filled with escaping rigid ideals of society and the difference between what’s the law and what is freedom. We'll play with the rule of cool but will still respect the rules as written. Oh, also the VTT. I'm working on an implementation of Lady Blackbird on alchemy, so we'll be utilizing that Custom Universe to power our game.

Safety

How Johnnie creates a safe table

Lady Blackbird is a collaborative storytelling game about flight from oppressive societies into the freedom of the Wild Blue. It may send mixed messages about who the villains are and touches on some antiquated ideas. So we will discuss safety tools before our game session, set clear limits on where the story will not go and then do a check in after the game. — In Discord, we’ll discuss the use safety tools with the following goals: - content warnings and what they mean for the game. - establish lines and veils document for things that are off limits - An X card to acknowledge concerns during the session. - An open door policy, which means that you are free to step away and leave at any time if something doesn't feel right.
