About the adventure

Adventurers wanted for a dangerous assignment. Well ok, I *say* dangerous, but you'll be fine. Probably. The Dunj-O-Matic is a fiendish contraption developed by Feeney - a (probably mad) Mage who built it to test inexperienced adventurers before they journey out to see what perils the real world has to offer. Each run through the Dunj-O-Matic is a single session with a short quest designed for beginner players or people looking to form a new group. It offers several strange encounters perfect for players learning the ropes or a group playing together for the first time. Game to be played over discord, all you need to bring is good vibes. A selection of premade characters will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Do you dare brave the multitude of menaces on offer? What traps and treasures will the Dunj-O-Matic hold? What the heck is a Dunj-O-Matic anyway? Come and find out!

About me

Long term DM who likes storytelling and interacting with the world and my players. Want to make a weird and quirky character? Fancy a walk through worlds that feel alive and react to whats going on? Lets go! DISCLAIMER - Games played with this DM will frequently include at least one of the following: Dragon magic, pirates, magical hobos and a lesbian couple selling noodle soup. I'm not sure why, it just happens.

Character creation

Creating your character

For a standard run through the Dunj-O-Matic, you'll need a level 1 character ready on game day. I have a small selection of characters ready to go for people to choose from if they haven't played before or just want to get right to it. If you want to make your own, I'll need to see the character sheet, preferably at least a day before the session begins. Anyhting in the 2024 players handbook is fine to use and we're using standard array for stat allocation. I can be available if you need help creating a character before game day, but I'm afraid I don't have any access to the books I can share beyond reading things out. If you don't have access to any of the books, your best bet is likely to use the character creator on dndbeyond (as much as I loathe recommending something that limits you so much.)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

As we're playing on Discord, players will need access to that as well as both a webcam and a microphone. If you're bringing your own character, I need to see it in advance, so I would recommend using a digital copy, or at least submitting a scan or picture to me a day or so before the game begins. A dice bot will be provided for rolling, but I'm happy for people to use their own physical die provided the rest of the group is comfortable with it and I feel I can trust you. In the event the group needs something for combat maps and visuals, I can provide temporary accounts on tableplop for anyone who isn't signed up to the site already.

What Rob the Freelance DM brings to the table

As a baseline, my gameplay style leans more towards roleplay and narrative, but the session will be adapted to more combat or puzzle heavy encounters if this is what people ask for before the game. I utilise a lot of music and ambient sound, so be prepared for some atmosphere. Readable, easy to use character sheets will be provided for those who are using premade characters, along with a dicebot and simple explanations of the rules as we go. My (slightly terrible) maps will also be available to view on Tableplop if we want them. Other than that, I bring good vibes, fun memories, an opportunity to learn if you're new to the game and a chance to meet people you can go adventuring with.

Safety

How Rob the Freelance DM creates a safe table

I prefer being able to talk to my players a little before the game so we know what to expect from each other and can make sure everyone will get along, so feel free to contact me before game day. Sessions always end with a brief discussion of what people enjoyed, what they didn't and a round of compliments.
