About the adventure

Get a taste of the Dungeons of Drakkenheim campaign setting with this free One-Shot! It's an intriguing medieval/baroque dark fantasy setting with some horror mixed in. This is the official 'Terror in Tierhaven' adventure from the 'Dungeons of Drakkenheim' campaign setting. Everyone is welcome- beginner or experienced. The Campaign Setting A falling star plummeted into the city of Drakkenheim, casting eldritch shards across the cityscape. In the aftermath, a violet eldritch haze cloaked the city. Survivors mutated, abominations appeared. The shards are magically powerful, so everyone is after them. The catch? Touching the shards or staying in the haze too long can contaminate you- and possibly make you mutate! Not everything is a walk in the park in this setting- sure you have combat, but strategy and creative thinking are also necessary. This Adventure The small village of Tierhaven is home to a Ley-Line Observatory manned by a mage from the Amethyst Academy. He hasn't sent a report in over a month, and the teleportation circle to the observatory isn't working. Your party of adventurers is sent to find out what's going on. A strange eldritch mist, a missing mage, claw marks and footprints from beasts that aren't part of the natural world all await. Follow the trail of clues to find answers- but don't die, (or worse yet, mutate), while you're getting the job done! The Full Disclosure I've been GMing D&D sessions since 2016, but I'm new to StartPlaying. I'm offering this free one-shot so that players can try out the Dungeons of Drakkenheim campaign setting and also try me out as a GM. Ultimately, I'll be running the full Drakkenheim campaign in this time slot for anyone who's interested.

About me

I've been a Dungeons & Dragons DM since 2016 and recently became a GM on StartPlaying (2026). I love collaboratively creating a great story with players and I also enjoy teaching first time D&D players. There's always role playing and combat in every session I run, and my number one rule is "Let's have fun!". I particularly like to run Dark Fantasy, Grimdark, and Eldritch & Cosmic Horror campaigns. My sessions are an inclusive safe space and a hate-free zone.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will choose from 8 pre-generated level 4 characters for this one-shot. While the characters have the usual D&D classes, they also have backgrounds and some abilities, spells, etc., that are specific to the Dungeons of Drakkenheim campaign setting. They'll give you a chance to try out some unique character capabilities.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We'll talk via Discord, so you'll need a free Discord account. We'll select pre-generated characters and play the session on D&D Beyond VTT, so you'll need a free D&D Beyond account.

What Teller of Tales brings to the table

This campaign has all the maps, images, and characters we need for a fun session. We'll use D&D 5.5e (2024) rules with a couple of unique but simple rules from the Drakkenheim campaign. The rules are related to the possibility of eldritch contamination and I'll explain them quick & easy before the game. There's mystery, there's combat, and there's horror!
