About the adventure
Welcome to the Texas Wasteland, this is a campaign set in the greater Texas area, but also encompassing neighboring states. The Campaign is world centric, meaning that the wasteland was here before you arrived and will carry on after you're gone. It is a brutal world where you could die for the handful of bottlecaps in your pocket, or just because something you stumbled by was hungry at the time. That being said, you have the power to grow into a wasteland legend, leveling up, gaining allies, building settlements, collecting powerful technology, destroying factions, all the typical tropes you would expect from a fallout game. Except you aren't the chosen one, you have no plot armor, and the game is permanently on survival mode. The Setting is based on the less than canon lore of the Lone Star Republic/Confederation. In Summary, many of the major cities of the old world somewhat rebuilt themselves in the years after the war, each operating as somewhat of a city-state, with a loose alliance for trade and mutual defense against larger outside threats such as Caesar's Legion to the West, and the Cajun Wasteland to the East. Though not as large and organized as the NCR they are still a powerful stabilizing factor in the region. The Brotherhood of Steel has a small presence in the area, however many of the prominent figures in the LSR are former BoS members, bringing their wealth of knowledge and advanced technology with them, furthering their goals of helping stabilizing the region. The region is far from unified however, and threats abound all around, leaving much to be desired, and plenty of adventures and exploration to be had. The Campaign takes place just before, and leading up-to a parallel timeline to Fallout 4, so the institute is still active, and there may be Synths operating or hunted down across the region. The Enclave has remnant bases scattered around, and there are a handful of Vaults scattered across the wasteland as well, making most any background a viable choice for new players. Players new to the system are welcome, as well as veterans, either way expect a brutal yet rewarding gameplay experience. Roleplay is highly encouraged, settlement building and trading is welcome, and combat is a part of life for those in the world of fallout, because if history has taught us one thing. Its that War... War never changes.

About me
I began telling stories and creating immersive narratives when I was a kid just playing with my brothers, not knowing what to call it, simply letting my imagination run wild and creating compelling and memorable characters, stories and worlds that we still talk about today. It wasn't until I was in College that I was introduced to any sort of formal system with which to apply these stories, and it would be the beginning of a long and exciting adventure, or as the case turned out to be, many adventures discovering different worlds, systems, personalities, and people. It all began with what is now my good friend Aaron on October 31st 2013, Halloween Day. Our college had no organized groups or systems for the most part and definitely nothing organizing any sort of Halloween festivities, however it also had no rules against dressing up for the occasion, and Aaron and I independent of each other, both being nerds at heart would take any opportunity to dress up, and so that's what we both did, him as a ranger, and myself as a swashbuckler. I remember it like it was yesterday, I was coming into the common room from class and he was entering from the side opposite of me from the theater area, when our eyes met, and Aaron, who stands 6 foot 3, and at the time probably weighting over 250lbs, marches straight up to me stopping 2 inches from my face. After a brief standoff in silence, Aaron looks at me and says "Do you want to be friends?" And as they say, the rest is history.

Creating your character
Characters will be created using the rules laid out in the Fallout the roleplaying game core rule book. Additional add on books allow for more character backgrounds and gear, I have access to these as well if anyone wants to make a character utilizing some of these advanced options. For the most part I run the game RAW with minor homebrew for things that would otherwise be tedious and detract from the experience of the players, and there is always room for some creative interpretation. Generally speaking we will create characters at a Session 0, and set expectations for the campaign at the same time.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I utilize Roll20 and Discord for all of my games currently. If you wish to join the campaign message me for the link to the roll20 and discord server.
What Dylan Dalton brings to the table
I like to create deeply immersive and personal stories when GMing. Most of the games I run are world centric, where the player is not the chosen one, they are not the prophesied hero of ages. They are just a person, in whatever dark gritty world they choose to play in. Some worlds are obviously more forgiving then others, but heroic moments are earned, relationships feel meaningful and grounded, and the world feels lived in, no mustache twirling villains, people act based on their motivation, people live their lives pursuing what is important to them, and act according to their beliefs and cultures. NPCs that the players speak to feel like individuals, not just reskinned versions of the same person. Roleplay is highly encouraged, mysteries are waiting to be unraveled, and combat should feel like life or death, because to your character, it is. However just like the real world, there are moments of hope, moments of humor, and even a bit of silliness. In terms of mechanics I tend to work with my players on their preferences, I tend to stich to mostly RAW only using homebrew mechanics when something would otherwise detract from the story or experience of the players, and I will discuss that with the players and always do my best to be consistent in a ruling if a similar issue comes up again. Music and setting the mood is a major enhancer and in Fallout it is Iconic. I use voices sparingly when I find it appropriate and natural to do so but I'm no voice actor by any means. The Combat tends to be fast paced and both tactical and cinematic mostly following the rules as written but giving them that classic fallout flair that we love from the wacky setting.
Homebrew rules
For this game, I am less strict about the rules for hunger and thirst. They are still very much a core mechanic and will be relevant, but the exact timing of when they happen is simplified so as to be less tedious on both the players and myself.

Safety
How Dylan Dalton creates a safe table
I begin with a 'Session 0' During which we will have a conversation where we'll go over the safety tools, content warnings, game mechanics, and how they all relate to the world of Fallout. During that conversation we'll also compose a Hard and Soft Boundaries/Lines and Veils document for possible reference later, and also discuss any optional rules or any topics that weren't covered yet. After each session we'll go over everything that happened, reminisce, and talk through feelings had about the session.
