About the adventure

Over a century has passed in complete darkness. The Keeper-Birds had almost begun to doubt if this day would ever come. But the Light has finally arrived, bright and true, just as the prophecies foretold. The feathery canopy of the Protector that separates this world from the next has now been revealed for all to see. The signal has been received. The mission endures! One by one, the Keepbirds chirrup and squawk and stretch their legs and wings. Soon, the halls will stir. Soon, the Librarum will thrum abustle once more, the century's quietude now ended. Soon, our Eidolons will awaken to each play their parts in the revival of this doomed planet. For there is so much unfinished business that must needs be done, ere this world be saved from its terrible fate... ----- "Eidolons of Athenae" is a Play By Post campaign using the Fate rules, set in the world of Skyfall, adjacent to an ongoing Daggerheart campaign. This story explores high-concept "Eidolons" that have lain dormant within the sealed halls of Parchspine for the past century. These Eidolons now awaken to play their invisible role in saving this world from its past!

About me

Hi, I'm Nicole! I'm an RPG blogger and professional GM/Storyteller from the Netherlands. I've played TTRPGs for over twenty years now, and I've GM'd for the greater part of that, with long-time experience covering Pathfinder & Starfinder; Daggerheart; World of Darkness games including Vampire, Hunter, and Mage; plus other titles like Fate, Dungeon World, and Blades in the Dark. All my adventures are handmade, giving me a deep personal connection to every campaign I run and the characters in them. Make an impact — change the worlds you play in! Additionally, my games are always new-player friendly. See a game you're interested in, but haven't played before? Send me a message!

Character creation

Creating your character

FATE lets us create characters based on Aspects and Skills instead of strictly-defined classes, and we can create Stunts that mechanically represent our character's specialties the way we want. Main requirement: every player must be some type of creature that isn't mortal!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

• First-time FATE player? No problem! FATE is a simple-to-play system, with its rules available on the official Fate SRD wiki. A quick-start synopsis will also be provided to players. • We will play using Discord, in the same server as the Starless Marches community. Our Eidolons (this campaign) will have separate channels and tags than the Lightbringers from that campaign.

What Nicole brings to the table

In this campaign, you can expect: - 🪐 High Concept Characters: This campaign assumes that all PC's are NOT an ordinary lineup of human-adjacent heroes. This is an opportunity to play something fantastical, perhaps even whimsical. Food for thought: a mote of "Arcane Intelligence", a dispossessed lich, the abandoned child of an apostate god, a penitent demon from the Abyss, or a sentient Bag of Holding with legs. - 🌠 Otherworldly Locales: Explore the starless world of Skyfall from an immortal, apocryphal perspective. This campaign begins in a magic library and features extraplanar and chrono-disparative adventures. Expect time loops, shared-dreamscapes, non-Euclidean dimensions, and time loops. - ⏳ Asynchronous Play: Write when it's convenient! We will follow a 48-hour response clock, with a graceful "auto-pilot" for when life really gets the better of you. My expectation is for player responses to be between 1-4 paragraphs per post, depending on the scene. - 🗡️ Tabletop Tie-In: Want even more worldbuilding? Characters, places, and events from this campaign will also appear in the Starless Marches Daggerheart campaign, and vice versa. - ✍🏻 Human Writing: No AI chatbots are, or ever were, used in creating this story, campaign, SPG listing, etc. This campaign is completely organic. We're all here because *we humans* want to write stories together. - 🔞 18-Plus Server: This isn't a smut game, but gods cuss and demons flirt. It's generally easiest if everyone at the table is an adult.

Homebrew rules

• Character creation will use Fate Condensed as a baseline, with a custom set of character skills and vitals • We will follow a 48-hour response clock, plus a few other techniques and modifications specific to Play By Post format A few techniques will be borrowed from "Keep the Story Moving", a free resource on Itch.io for getting the most out of a Play By Post campaign. Although optional, it's a great read. Check it out here: https://zeruhur.itch.io/keep-the-story-moving

Safety

How Nicole creates a safe table

We use the following tools: Open Door, X/N/O Cards, and Breaks. StartPlaying provides explanations on these tools, and here's how they work at my tables: - If you need to step away from the keyboard for longer than a couple days, that's OK. (It's polite to give the other players notice if you have an idea how long you'll be AFK, but you don't need to justify or explain why) - If the content in a scene is troubling for any reason, let me or the channel know (my DMs are open) and we can pause the scene and review/adjust accordingly. - Given the asynchronous format, characters may drop in or out as the campaign continues. At the beginning of the campaign we will have mini-scenes for each character, as we integrate them into the story. Once the story begins in earnest, new characters will similarly get mini-scenes so we can introduce them! Lastly, this campaign is LGBTQ++ owned & operated. We keep a zero-tolerance policy against harassment, hate speech, and "TRASH" behavior (Transphobic, Racist, Ableist, Sexist, or Homophobic).
