About the adventure
RAPPAN ATHUK: THE DUNGEON OF GRAVES In Rappan Athuk, you stand at the edge of a wilderness that conceals one of the largest dungeon complexes in the history of Dungeons & Dragons. There is no single path forward, only choices. Multiple entrances lead into a vast, interconnected underworld where routes branch, loop, and descend far beyond what you can see. Nearby settlements and factions offer limited aid, but once you commit, the direction you take and how deep you go is entirely your decision. Known as the “Dungeon of Graves,” this is a place that does not adjust to you. Areas far beyond your strength can be reached early, and survival depends on judgment, preparation, and knowing when to retreat. Exploration is deliberate, with mapping corridors, tracking resources, and learning the dangers of each level. Combat is only part of the challenge; information, caution, and timing determine whether you press forward or join the countless dead below. As the campaign continues, the dungeon changes in a practical sense as you begin to understand it. Paths that were once unknown become established routes, hazards become manageable, and deeper levels come within reach through planning rather than luck. Progress is earned through experience and decisions, not guarantees. By the time you reach the lower depths, you are no longer reacting to the dungeon. You are navigating it with intent as you push into areas that once seemed unreachable, confronting threats that demand everything you have learned. Does it ever end? No one truly knows. Will you be the first to find out? Doubtful. But that never stopped the brave, the desperate, or the foolish. Which one are you? ---------------------------------- THE REAL-WORLD HISTORY of RAPPAN ATHUK Rappan Athuk began in the early 2000s as a series of adventure modules published by Necromancer Games for 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons. Designed by Bill Webb and Clark Peterson, it was created with a deliberate “First Edition feel,” emphasizing lethal encounters, nonlinear exploration, and minimal narrative guidance at a time when most official content favored balanced, story-driven adventures. Originally released in multiple installments, the dungeon quickly gained a reputation for its scale and difficulty, earning the title “The Dungeon of Graves.” In the mid-2000s, the material was compiled and expanded into a single massive volume, often referred to as “Reloaded,” which unified the dungeon into a cohesive mega-structure. After Necromancer Games ceased operations, the creators founded Frog God Games and later revived the campaign through a successful Kickstarter in the early 2010s. This new edition significantly expanded the dungeon and adapted it for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, with later conversions for modern editions of D&D. Over time, Rappan Athuk became one of the most recognized modern mega-dungeons, known for preserving and reintroducing a classic style of open-ended, high-risk dungeon exploration.

About me
I am a long time D&D player having started at the beginning of 2nd edition. For the past 6 years I have been running several D&D campaigns and loving every minute of it. I am the perfect DM for those of you who want to learn how to play D&D, or/and play with a DM that isn't here to make a political statement. I just want to enjoy some great time sitting around our shared table weaving stories and limenting my poor rolls. If you want a high-energy DM of a thousand voices who loves to laugh and have fun, then please reach out and grab a seat at my table.

Creating your character
I will work with you, if needed, to create your character. Please see my House Rules for specific rules on character creation. Character must be made within R20 - character made in D&D Beyond will need to be remade in R20 or they will not be allowed. I will take you art (or generate art for you) and make you a cool looking pop-out token for you. Expect to die - a lot - OSR style 1st edition is unfairly unbalanced - so it might not be the best to write a novel for your backstory. Keep it simple and we can go from there to build something as we go, should you live long enough that is!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You should be familiar with D&D coming into this campaign. Knowledge of Roll20 is not required and will gladly be taught to you if you need it. Make sure you have Discord and a working mic before signing up. This is a MEGA DUNGEON so expect a completed campaign will take 1+ years to complete, or more! You should not expect to see every room or even map in the game. We will play till you win (if that is really possible in Rappan Athuk 🤷🏻♂️) or until you get tired of the meatgrinder. Some people really love this older style of play and some don't. Please make sure you know what you are getting into before you sign up 😏
What Brian G. (PonSquared) brings to the table
I love to do voices, I will play music and ambient sounds, I love having intense tactical combat, and I generally fall on the RAW side of the rules.
Homebrew rules
I have House Rules document that covers the few basic changes I have made over the many years of DMing. It also goes over some things that the PHB/DMG touch on but do not give rules for. I do not allow multiclassing in my games. I have a large selection of player options from subclasses to species for you to pick from. I use the Deck of Inspiration (70+ cards) instead of Heroic Inspiration.

How Brian G. (PonSquared) creates a safe table
This is a game for mature players. If you have an issue with the content, please contact me. Otherwise expect mature themes and plenty of violence. The content warnings are probobibly not a complete set. This place is very - very - very large so many things are possible. Those easily offended by mundain things should reconsider joining this campaign.
