About me

Call me Oginme, OG, or Cliff. I have been playing D&D since 1978 and ran my first homebrewed adventures two years later. I put the game aside for a couple of decades to focus on career and family. Then my son asked for a Dungeons and Dragons set for his birthday and asked me to create a campaign for him and his friends. I went on to DM for two additional groups who had been abandoned by their DMs and we ran campaigns lasting well over two years. A decision to leave a demanding and unrewarding job handed me an opportunity to take on running games and campaigns professionally. The term professional is not one I use lightly. I have read many books, listened to many live streams, and practiced at improv and writing to hone my skills. My constant stream of imagination and flight of fantasy are activated when DMing games of DnD. When not playing, planning, or creating for my games, I have a small herd of LaMancha dairy goats, plant an extensive garden, play guitar, read and listen to a whole lot of books, study a variety of subjects, and cook.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created at Session 0. I will give the players a choice during the session 0 between point buy or rolling together for an array which everyone will use. We will be using D&D 5e 2024 and additional classes/subclasses from the 2014 books will be available to choose. There are aspects of choosing your class and species which may be specific to the setting of Krynn: - The Gods are absent so clerics are non-existent or rare with healing magic considered a miracle. - The halfling species of Kender can be chosen to fit within the setting and have a notoriety for "finding" odd things. - Official species of Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Kender, and Humans have specific flavorful regions where they are most populous. Other species may be considered after discussion about fitting them into the setting. I am willing to discuss inclusion of other official source books as well as 3rd party or home brewed classes, provided they could be worked into the history in the setting.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need at a minumum: - A free account on Roll20, - A free account on Discord, - A computer, - Internet access, - A dedicated microphone is highly recommended to exclude feedback and background noise from making things difficult for other players to hear. - Headphones are very much recommended to avoid feedback from external speakers getting picked up by your microphone. Upon signing up for the game, you will receive a welcoming email. In the email you will find links to the game on Roll20 and the Discord server. On the Discord server, you will find more information about the background and lore of Krynn along with guidance on character backgrounds and building.

What Oginme brings to the table

What you can expect: Maps, dice rolls, character sheets, and handouts will be on Roll20. Voice and music/ambient sounds will be over Discord. There is a dedicated discord channel for the game which will include areas for out of session role play, general session notes, lore and setting knowledge, and announcements. I supply custom maps for most encounters and settings. The move to a map is not a sign that things will devolve into combat. Instead, there will be things on the map for you to take note of and use to your advantage. These maps are also more immersive with detail and color to make things interesting and show terrain and objects with which you can interact or use. I do create a written summary of each session on both the Roll20 game forum and on Discord for your personal enjoyment and/or review. I play a soundtrack for each session to help with immersion and mood for the settings. You will find plenty of handouts to help with visualization and your reference further on in the campaign. I also supply a variety of tokens for NPCs and adversaries which assist with identification during encounters. Along with that, my NPCs are my characters in the game. Important NPCs have their own values, goals and objectives and will usually act with their own self-interest in mind. Do not expect all creatures to fight to the last, nor will they try to exterminate you without cause. Most will attempt to surrender or flee when over matched and will not pursue characters who flee if it goes against their objectives or nature. The failure of a creature to do so is also a clue to the players on the autonomy of those creatures.

Homebrew rules

We will discuss adoption of home brew rules as well as optional official rules during session 0. Any inclusion of alternate, home brewed, or optional rules will be with the consent of all the players.

Safety

How Oginme creates a safe table

The campaign will start with a session 0 where we will discuss the table rules and identify lines and veils for everyone to respect. My agenda for session 0 can be found https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v8phgrwjeOfOu5ivSqrKmcqcKzJTqj8XBnpm6CUZWJk/edit?usp=drive_link. My table rules can be found https://docs.google.com/document/d/15PsoLeQihhUVv_SSBjIUSRBLYe9k4IjtZUp9qQId8QM/edit?usp=drive_link. I will make X, N, and O cards available during the game for players to react to any objectionable content within the game. These will be anonymous and will provide us with a chance to dial back any objectionable content or figure out how to make the situation more suitable for all the players. Following sessions, I will be available for debriefing on the content of the session. Where needed, we will discuss the direction and where the content needs to be adapted or changed. I have a separate channel in the Discord server for the players to acknowledge the actions of others (Stars) and add wishes for opportunities, content, and/or action they would like to see moving forward (Wishes). I am usually available at most times to have a discussion on aspects of the game you find either troubling or would like to see more often.
