About the adventure

Coronal Lake is a fading memory in the hearts of the living. The Restless face a choice: To remain and linger as they fade, too, or follow their Fetters across the Shadowlands, trying to unlock the meaning of these powerful anchors. Now they find themselves drawn to a land of bright lights and loud noises, where tourists from around the world congregate while locals pretend their lives are normal. For the Dead, the Niagara Necropolis is a home, a haven, and a subtle threat from the Iron Kingdom beyond the Sunless Sea. The Circle has faced spectres and halted the schemes of a nephwrack. Now they face an even more unnerving challenge: Navigating wraith society, avoiding the Byzantine political maneuvers that threaten to ensnare everyone they touch, while trying to resolve their Fetters and feed their Passions. This story uses the Wraith the Oblivion 20th Edition rules with a few modifications from previous editions. Although it's the sequel to the Hunger At Coronal Lake, it's also a suitable standalone story for new players. Just across the Shroud is a world where death is only the beginning.

About me

Greetings from the northern wilds! I'm a "forever DM" but not in a bad way. I love DMing, because why limit yourself to one character when you can be all of them (less the PCs)?! DMing is my outlet for imagination and creativity. I don't draw, I'm not musical in any way, but what I am is a storyteller. Since childhood my head has been overflowing with ideas that had no outlet until I discovered D&D. I love to homebrew and I love constructing epic, sprawling campaigns that evolve and grow with the players' contributions. I'm a published author and have been a freelance writer for D&D back in 3rd Edition days. I'm looking to run D&D games, but I've run many other systems. Favourites include Aberrant, HERO System, All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Chronicles of Darkness (I particularly enjoy Beast: The Primordial!), Rifts (Savage Worlds and the original Palladium system), but my greatest love is for Hackmaster 5th Edition. So I'm also interested in creating "Learn to..." campaigns with different systems. I would love to give new players and seasoned D&D players a chance to explore new systems and see what else is out there in the vast galaxy of games. I've been playing RPGs since 1983, and DMing since 1984. But: Years of experience mean nothing if you can't adapt, adjust, and innovate to make your game the best experience for everyone at the table. My two tennets of gaming are: "Games are meant to be fun" and "Don't be afraid to get weird". Let's roll some dice.

Character creation

Creating your character

While some players will be returning from a previous story, using their first characters, new players are definitely welcome. Character creation for new players can be handled during Session 0 with assistance from the Storyteller and more experienced players to help them find a concept that both intrigues the new player and fits with the story.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a Roll20 account, a Discord account, and a working microphone. Roll20 is used for maps and character sheets while Discord handles the voice chat and text-based communication and sharing of information.

What Jared S brings to the table

I provide over 30 years of experience with Wraith the Oblivion, arguably one of the more obscure and esoteric games of the 1990s. I utilize maps and visual aids but more than anything, I provide a story heavy with opportunities for roleplaying challenges.

Homebrew rules

I greatly prefer the Harrowing rules of 1st Edition over the 20th Anniversary edition. Likewise, in the 1st Edition, the various Arcanoi include "basic abilities" common to all users that allowed a more streamlined approach to many of Wraith's iconic powers.

Safety

How Jared S creates a safe table

Wraith is a game that requires some a level of trust between players that many games do not, particularly when guiding each others' Shadows. To this end, safety and comfort is paramount. We will start with Session 0 where we can discuss players' comfort levels with various topics. Lines and Veils will be discussed and established.
