About the adventure
Something is stirring beneath the quiet frontier town of Phandalin - and it is far older, and far more dangerous, than anyone realizes. What begins as a classic adventure - protecting caravans, exploring ruins, and helping a growing settlement - quickly unfolds into a deeper mystery tied to a shattered obelisk buried far below the earth. Strange visions, corrupted creatures, and whispers from the dark begin to surface, pulling your party into a story that blends heroic fantasy with creeping intrigue. As you dig deeper, you will uncover secrets that threaten not just Phandalin, but the very fabric of reality beneath it. This campaign is based on Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk, expanded and enhanced with additional story elements, character-driven arcs, and meaningful choices that shape the world around you. Your actions will matter—alliances will form, enemies will rise, and the fate of Phandalin will rest in your hands. Expect a steady progression from low-level adventurers to true heroes as the stakes grow with each chapter. This game is designed for both new and experienced players. If you are new to Dungeons & Dragons, you will be guided through the rules, mechanics, and roleplay in a welcoming and approachable way. If you are a veteran player, you can expect layered storytelling, dynamic encounters, and opportunities to deeply invest in your character’s journey. Every player will have a chance to shine.

Creating your character
Characters will begin at Level 1 and be created on D&D Beyond prior to our first session. We will use the Point Buy system for ability scores to ensure a balanced and fair starting point for everyone at the table. This campaign will follow the updated 2024 ruleset, meaning all classes, subclasses, feats, and spells should come from the 2024 materials. If you’re interested in using a species (race) from outside the 2024 rules, I’m open to discussing it on a case-by-case basis to make sure it fits well within the campaign. During Session 1, we will take time together to review each character to ensure everything is properly built and aligned with the ruleset. This is also a great opportunity to ask questions, make adjustments, and ensure everyone feels confident moving forward, especially helpful for newer players. In addition, each player will complete a short Google Form designed to help bring your character to life. This will include prompts about your character’s fears, important relationships, personal goals, and meaningful possessions. These details will play an important role in shaping the story and ensuring your character has a meaningful place within the world and the adventure ahead.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
First, create a free account on D&D Beyond. This is where you’ll build and manage your character, track abilities, and access our shared battle maps during gameplay. Once you’ve joined the campaign link (provided after booking), you’ll be able to create your Level 1 character using the agreed-upon rules. Second, make sure you have a Discord account and join the game’s private server. Discord will be our central hub for voice chat during sessions, announcements, scheduling, and out-of-game communication. A working microphone is strongly recommended so everyone can fully participate - cameras are completely OPTIONAL. Finally, come prepared with a completed character (or close to it), a willingness to collaborate, and a readiness to step into the story. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, everything else will be guided and clarified during our first session together.
What Jordan brings to the table
You can expect a well-prepared, story-driven experience where your character is part of the living world. Every aspect of your backstory will be implemented into a collective tapestry. I love trying to do voices and creating a robust and thriving world where you can interact with story characters with lives and dreams and fears. In our game, rules provide great guardrails to keep things balanced and fair, but I love giving opportunities for cool and creative moments for your character!
Homebrew rules
1. Drinking potions is a bonus action. 2. Death save rolls are hidden for added suspense. 3. If you don't like the direction your character is going, we can work together to pivot!

How Jordan creates a safe table
Creating a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment is a priority at my table. Before we begin, all players will have access to a simple Lines and Veils form to establish clear boundaries around content. This allows everyone to privately communicate what they are comfortable with and what should be avoided or handled off-screen. These boundaries will always be honored, no questions asked. During Session 0, we will take time to align expectations as a group. This includes tone of the campaign, table etiquette, communication preferences, and how we handle in-game conflict. I will also walk through safety tools so everyone understands how to use them. Throughout the campaign, we will use a digital X, N, and O system through Discord. Players can message me directly or use simple signals during play if something becomes uncomfortable (X to stop, N to steer away, O to indicate everything is good). At the end of each session, I will remain available for check-ins, questions, or concerns, and I will periodically follow up with players to ensure everyone is still enjoying the experience.
