About the adventure

⇝ Learn the basics of Pathfinder 2nd Edition with this fun campaign ⇝ New players welcome! No prior knowledge of the system required! ⇝ We'll create the characters together as a group, and I'll guide and help you through it ⇝ You'll learn everything you need to know while playing! No need to read the rulebook before we start. Many years ago an Evil Sorceress™ wanted to bring death and destruction to the world by unleashing a monstrous army, but she was slain before she could go through with it. Now you're celebrating the 450th anniversary of that victory and the founding of your hometown, when a local business owner hires you to investigate a seemingly small problem. Nobody expected you to uncover that the ancient enemy has returned to her massive underground dungeon, where she had been breeding those monsters, and is still dead set on her goal. How will you decide to stop her? Will you turn her former demonic minions into allies with some clever negotiating and maybe an actual deal with the devil, or will you simply kill them all and stop their machinations for good? Will you get involved in the messy politics of the mayoral race of your town, or stay out of it and let the dice fall where they will? Who's to say what will be the better outcome? This game is great for newcomers to Pathfinder 2nd Edition - no matter if you're coming from D&D or are brand new to tabletop roleplaying entirely. There won't be any lengthy rules explanations, instead you learn them as you roll dice and actually play the game. Pathfinder 2e often gets called crunchy, but it's way more approachable than its reputation suggests when you're learning at the table. The first two or three sessions we'll be going through the Beginner Box adventure, where you can familiarize yourself with the system and the NPCs living in your hometown, before then starting the "Abomination Vaults" Adventure Path proper. This is a classic dungeon crawl adventure, where you move deeper and deeper into the dungeon with each level. While that means many monsters and enemies oppose your progress, combat is often not the only solution. Clever tactics and creative solutions are always going to be rewarded. There will also be plenty of opportunities for role-play and character moments, with both denizens of the dungeon as well as the town above. I've woven in some custom content in addition to material from the "Troubles in Otari" adventure at appropriate times to make the NPCs in the town feel more alive and fleshed out, as well as make the role-play involving them richer and choices with them more meaningful.

About me

Hello! I'm Florian, a Game Master based in Germany. I discovered tabletop RPGs a little later than most - around the age of 30 - but for the past 15 years, they've been a huge part of my life. Whether I'm behind the screen or rolling dice as a player, I love diving into new systems and crafting memorable stories. I got my start with Pathfinder right when 1st Edition launched, and I've been hooked ever since. While I never really played much D&D, Pathfinder 2e has become my favorite system to run these days. I also have experience running Vampire: The Masquerade and Shadowrun, and I've dabbled in many other games as a player. What I love the most about TTRPGs is the collaborative nature of it, where we all tell a story together.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will generate the characters together in the Session 0. Don't worry, despite everything you heard it's a fairly easy process and I will guide you through it. You may have heard horror stories about how difficult Pathfinder 2e is, but its actually very straight-forward and its very hard to screw up. The game starts at level 1 and you'll likely be level 11 or 12 by the end.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🎤 A working microphone 🌐 A stable internet connection and an internet browser (like Edge or Chrome) 💬 A free Discord account (I can help set one up if needed) 🎧 (Optional) Headphones are highly recommended to avoid any echo. If you're using speakers, you'll need to set up "Push to talk" (we can do that together) 📷 (Optional) A webcam. I'll use one, as it helps me communicate, but no pressure.

What Florian the GM brings to the table

I'll provide access to the Foundry VTT and Discord Server that's being used for the game. The Foundry VTT handles the math and bookkeeping automatically, so you can focus on the roleplay and immerse yourself in the world. I'll provide music for ambiance.

Homebrew rules

We'll be using the "Free Archetype" variant rule from the Core Rulebook, which gives players more options. Other house rules can be discussed in Session 0 or at any point during the game.

Safety

How Florian the GM creates a safe table

We will start the campaign with a Session 0. Those unfamiliar with the term, that is where we’ll go over expectations that everyone has for the game as well as the safety tools that are being used. Afterwards we’ll work together on forming a coherent party and generate your characters. Lines and Veils will be handled via the Monte Cook RPG Consent Sheet, which covers many "common" limits already and allows everyone to add their own as well. During gameplay you can always indicate with the X-Card that you're not comfortable with a certain topic and it will be avoided, no questions asked. This is handled through a Foundry VTT module. Don't be shy to use it if needed. After the game everyone can share their thoughts on the game, as well as post them in the Stars and Wishes channel on Discord.
