About the adventure

"Lost Mine Of Phandelver" will introduce you to all of the basics of playing Dungeons & Dragons: combat, roleplay, and exploration! Characters will start at Level 1 and end the campaign at Level 4. But here's the great part - your character will change and impact the story. I adjust my campaigns so that your character's decisions, objectives, and backstory are a critical part of them. So instead of just being in the world, your characters are the heroes and main characters of the story. Does your character have a missing sibling? Maybe they'll show up in this campaign. Is your character trying to locate a lost artifact? Perhaps this campaign will be how they find it! This campaign* is designed for those who have never/barely played Dungeons & Dragons. We will be using the 2024 rules of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. During gameplay, I will explain the rules as we go and give suggestions on what your characters can do. However, I also play "Rule of Cool" as well, so there will be times when after we know the rules, we know how we can break them, and I also have homebrew rules that are designed to maximize your fun as a player and for your character. The setting is in the Forgotten Realms, which is also one of the most popular settings in Dungeons and Dragons (as also seen in the 2023 "Dungeons & Dragons" movie and in the video game, "Baldur's Gate 3"). *You may hear phrases like one-shots, adventures, and campaigns. Here's an easy breakdown using a TV series to explain the differences: - One-shot: a single episode - Adventure: a season - Campaign: An entire series

About me

As someone who started their journey with tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) not too long ago, I remember the excitement and nervousness that came with it. Having a safe, guided opportunity to play these games was something I wanted, and now I want to give back to this community by giving those same opportunities to others. In my games, we will have a Session 0 (for FREE!) to go over the technology, character creation, and safety tools. This also gives everyone a chance to connect to make sure that you feel comfortable playing with the people who joined the game. During gameplay, I explain the rules as we go through the adventure, provide suggestions on what characters can do in situations, set up epic moments to occur, bring non-player characters (NPCs) to life with voice acting and personalities, and most importantly, HAVE FUN! Overall, my games are heavy in combat, roleplay, and narrative. So if you enjoy games that have these elements, you'll enjoy my games. I look forward to being your Game Master and making TTRPGs fun for you!

Character creation

Creating your character

For character creation, we will use options available in the Player's Handbook (5.5 Edition) and Forgotten Realms: Heroes Of Faerun. Once you join the campaign, you'll have access to our table's Discord server, which will include information on how to create your character in D&D Beyond. We will also have a session 0 (free of charge!) where we will go over technology tutorial, character creation, basic rules of play, and answer any questions you may have.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To play, you will need the following: *Webcam & Microphone *D&D Beyond Account (for campaign and character sheets) *Discord Account (I encourage to use the app over the web broswer) *Web Browser (to access our VTT, D&D Beyond's "Maps VTT") *Dice (either digital or physical) I'll send you a link to our D&D Beyond Campaign and Discord Server when you join. The Discord server will give you all the information you need in terms of character creation, gameplay expectations, etc. All communications and sessions will take place in Discord. You can create a character and their backstory in D&D Beyond prior to Session 0 (which I strongly encourage) but you can wait until we have our session 0 before creating one if you want assistance. Know that your character and backstory may change during/after Session 0, which is totally fine to do and I will be available to help support you in building your character.

What Crit Hit The Giant brings to the table

We will have a Session 0 (for free!) before we start the campaign. In this session, I will walk you through the technology we will use for gameplay. We will also go through safety tools, gameplay expectations, and have everyone introduce themselves so that you can have a sense of the table and confirm that this is a good fit for you and for everyone at the table before we start the campaign. I will bring the source materials you need to play: The Player's Handbook and the "Forgotten Realms: Heroes Of Faerun" book, as well as some other options. My GM'ing style is: *A narrator that wants to see your character overcome obstacles ad achieve epic moments *Support you all in learning how to play and to have fun while we play. *Use music and character voices in my game style as I try to make it feel as real as possible. I'm always open to answering questions and suggestions from players and allow time for you to follow and understand how the game is played as well.

Homebrew rules

I will provide a full list of homebrew rules that I implement in my games when you join. Some of the homebrew rules that I incorporate that are popularly known in D&D are: - Perkins' Critical Hits (max damage on one dice set, then add your rolled damage dice) - Critical Success on Saving Throws (natural 20 means you take no damage even if you take half) - Group Maneuvers, which allows you to use your reaction to do a cool tag team move with your other party members once you learn it (but be careful - enemies also have this capability as well!) - Heroic Failure (on a natural 1, you can take the automatic success but you can also elect to add more to the failure by adding an additional consequence. In return, you can give your party Heroic Inspiration) - Spell Scrolls can be used by anyone (there are checks that you will have to pass. Failing does result in a consequence) - And more!
