About the adventure
Before the scribing stations shut down for good, they all gave one final message, “The capital is gone. The Empire has fallen. They are coming." No one knows what happened to the capital of Urfeld's Empire. What few rumors you've managed to hear point the finger at the 13 magi, or the emperor, or divine retribution. The cause doesn't matter. You have seen the consequences yourself. Everything is coming undone. The empire's machines have ceased to function. Strange monstrous beings prowl the land, taking town after town with them. It's only a matter of time before they find you too. Seeking safety, you've found it. A town thus untouched by the cascading collapse of the empire. The town of Sunview is a small settlement in the Urfeld Lowlands, a once-quiet valley nestled on the borderlands of the empire. Though it is safe, it won't be for long. The wave of chaos grows nearer with every passing day. Time is short, and you must do everything necessary to prepare the town - and yourselves - from what's coming. There are ancient things in this valley, things that may help prepare you. With doom approaching, you may have no choice but to seek them out yourself before others get to them first... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- In short: interact with contending factions, delve dungeons for ancient magitek treasures, and build up your town in preparation for what comes at the end of the campaign!

About me
Hi there, I'm Max! I have a HUGE passion for storytelling, and playing RPGs has allowed me to share it with tons of amazing people! I've been running RPGs since I was 13 years old, and continue to hone my craft and skills to this very day! Creating art, doing silly voices, creating props and hand-writing letters are just a few of the many elements of myself I love to put into my games. I love going that extra mile to make my players' games memorable and most of all: fun! Revealing the fabled monster omens have been pointing to, calling back to an element of my players' backstories, showing the antagonist's true intentions, discovering a new ally to bolster the party. Seeing the joy, terror, and elation in my players as I enhance their stories is a feeling like no other, and I constantly seek to deliver that. Some of my best memories are creating these moments for my friends and family, and I've realized that I'd love to share this passion and excitement with others! I'm well-versed in running 5th edition D&D, and in recent years I've also begun to branch out to other systems that will allow my games to be enhanced that much more. I've found a place in the OSR community, and love to replicate that pure feeling of D&D that's captured in systems like Old School Essentials and Shadowdark. I've even branched into Sci-Fi horror with Mothership as well! I'm constantly taking in influence, concepts, and gameplay mechanics from a wide variety of game systems to enhance my own, and am more than happy to branch out and learn new systems!

Creating your character
🌟We will handle character creation all together during the first session (free of charge!). Nothing is required of you, but if you'd like to be prepared, have an idea for a character backstory. 📚While it is not required, if you want to go above and beyond before the game, I have a little setting primer I can provide that will list all available races, classes, and relevant information regarding the world if you'd like to have an idea of what you'll be working with. And if you don't, that's ok! I will explain everything that would need explaining in the first session, so there's no pressure.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
🗣 Have a discord account (https://discord.com/) so that we can coordinate and communicate during the game, a functioning microphone for voice chat, and a webcam for video feed (optional). 📕 I will provide PDFs of the rules before the game. It's advised (but not required) to read ahead to have a general familiarity with the rules 🧙♂️ Characters will be created during the first session. It is not required to have a character concept and backstory before we begin, but it is a welcome addition!

Additionally, I constantly strive to curate a good collection of adaptive ambience and music for my games to help enhance the mood. 🔮 A setting tailored to include your characters' backstories and desires to help make a memorable game for everyone at the table! ⚔ My combat encounters are always tense and tactical, utilizing a variety of foes, tactics, and environmental considerations to allow for more engaging encounters whenever able. ✨ I like to encourage creative solutions to problems, and reward intuitive players for clever plans. I will improvise rulings in the event of clever ideas during combat. Using the environment, improvised weapons or moves, and heroic last stands in moments of death are always amazing moments to forgo rules and allow for something special to happen! 📖 I will provide PDFs for the players and have all the maps, tokens, and resources necessary to run the game. I have extensive experience introducing beginners to RPGs and ensuring a great experience for everyone. Additionally, I have homebrew rules to tweak the experience in favor of player agency and fun.

-Player Characters begin with 5000XP (Roughly level 3 depending on class) -Modified experience gain to reward exploration and narrative progression. -A number of smaller tweaks to character classes to allow for more player expression. -Custom injury mechanic to allow for more player choice and heroic last stands.

How Knight Maxwell creates a safe table
Players can expect a fast-paced and easily digestible gaming experience in a sandbox that responds to their actions. The world will react realistically to player actions and may present threats that are too great to handle head on. The system we will be playing, Old School Essentials (or OSE for short), is a rules-light game system based on one of the original versions of Dungeons & Dragons. (Think the version of D&D played on Stranger Things!). OSE's simplicity allows for a very quick, evocative, and FUN experience for everyone involved. It's like injecting pure D&D into your veins without ever having to worry about crunching numbers or confusing rules. -=-=-=-=-=-=- The first session we have will be a "session 0," in which we'll create characters together and discuss backstories, the basics of play, and iron out any questions anyone may have. Character creation is quick and simple, and we'll be able to begin play as soon as characters are done being created! We will also make use of "Lines and Veils" during our session 0 to discuss any topics that crosses the line for anyone at the table to make sure that everyone has a great experience. 🐲 Both Dungeons AND Dragons will be present in this game or your money back gurantee! 🐲
