About the adventure
Someone stole half a million gold coins. Waterdeep wants to know where it is. So do you. A crime. A city full of suspects. And you’re right in the middle of it. Welcome to Waterdeep—the City of Splendors. A living, breathing place full of power, politics, and people who all want something. This is a beginner-friendly Daggerheart adventure. No experience needed. **The Story** It starts with a brawl at the Yawning Portal—Waterdeep’s most infamous tavern, built over a massive dungeon shaft. Someone throws a punch. Chaos erupts. And when it’s over… you’re no longer just bystanders. A fortune in gold has gone missing. Powerful factions are already hunting for it. And the trail leads into the streets, the shadows—and somewhere beneath the city. **What You’ll Do** * Investigate clues and unravel a layered conspiracy * Talk your way through tense social encounters—or make things worse * Handle fast, cinematic combat when things go sideways * Make decisions that actually change how the story unfolds Daggerheart is built for this kind of story—easy to learn, narrative-driven, and designed so every roll pushes things forward. **How It Works** This starts as a contained adventure (2–3 sessions)with a complete story. If the group wants more, it naturally expands into a full Waterdeep: Dragon Heist campaign where: * Rival factions compete for the missing gold * The city evolves around what you do If not? You still walk away with a finished, satisfying story. **Who This Is For** * New players who want an easy entry into tabletop RPGs * Experienced players who want roleplay, intrigue, and meaningful choices * Anyone who prefers clever plans and character moments over dungeon crawling **The Job Is Simple** Find the gold. Figure out who’s behind it, and survive long enough to decide what you’re going to do with it. Because in Waterdeep… the real question isn’t who stole the money...It’s *who gets to keep it.*

About me
I’ve been GMing for about six years, mostly online, and I love running story-first games. I spend a lot of time with Star Trek Adventures and Vampire: the Masquerade (5e), and my focus is always on character, tone, and choices that actually matter. My style is roleplay-forward but flexible. I enjoy creating memorable NPCs, giving them distinct voices and personalities, and building longer story arcs that grow over time. I like to keep things immersive, but there’s always room for humor and table banter—this is still a game, after all. I’m especially comfortable running games for new players. I enjoy helping people learn the system, find their footing, and ease into roleplay at their own pace, without pressure to “perform” or already know everything. Players often mention the NPCs, voices, and visual details as standout parts of my games. I put a lot of care into making the world feel alive and giving everyone the tools to engage confidently.

Creating your character
You have two easy options for creating your character. Option 1 — Create a character with me in a short session 0 or through chat on discord: We can build your character together using Demiplane, an online character builder for Daggerheart. I’ll walk you through the process step-by-step so you can learn how the system works. This is a great option if you want to customize your character. Option 2 — Choose a ready-to-play character: If you’d rather jump straight into the adventure, I’ll also provide several pre-made characters connected to the story in Waterdeep. You can simply pick one and start playing. No rulebooks are required. I’ll explain the rules during play, so new players can focus on enjoying the adventure.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
🧰 Preparing for the Game Everything we use for the game is free and easy to set up. 1️⃣ Create a free Roll20 account Roll20 will be used for maps, tokens, and visual play spaces. 2️⃣ Create a free Demiplane account Demiplane is where we’ll create and manage Daggerheart characters. 3️⃣ Join the Discord server We’ll use Discord for voice chat and between-session communication. I’ll send an invite after you join the game. 4️⃣ Check your audio setup Please have a working microphone and stable internet connection so everyone can hear each other clearly. You do not need to read the rules beforehand—I’ll guide everyone through the system during play.
What Eric brings to the table
My goal is to create a welcoming table where players can relax, learn the system, and enjoy a great story together. You can expect an immersive experience with background music and ambient sound to help bring scenes to life—from the lively chaos of taverns to the shadowy streets of Waterdeep. The game will use Roll20 maps and tokens so everyone can easily follow the action during exploration, chases, and combat. My GM style focuses on collaborative storytelling. I enjoy descriptive narration, cinematic moments, and encouraging creative solutions from players. Rules help guide the game, but clever ideas and dramatic moments are always welcome. Daggerheart’s flexible system makes it perfect for bold plans and exciting storytelling. You may also hear the occasional NPC voice or accent during roleplay—sometimes serious, sometimes a little humorous. I’m not a professional voice actor, but I enjoy bringing the world and its characters to life. Most importantly, I aim to create a friendly, cooperative table where everyone feels comfortable learning the game and contributing to the story.

Safety
How Eric creates a safe table
Creating a safe and respectful table is a priority. Before the game begins, we’ll use Demiplane’s built-in safety tool to quickly and anonymously indicate any topics or situations players would prefer to avoid. This helps establish our Lines and Veils so everyone’s boundaries are respected from the start. During play we will also use an X-Card safety tool. If something in the game becomes uncomfortable, any player can simply signal the X-Card. When that happens: • We immediately stop the scene • Take a short break • Return and continue with a different scene or direction No explanation is required. Players never need to justify using the tool. If someone does want to talk about it privately, I’m always available to listen—but that conversation is completely optional. The goal is to ensure everyone feels safe, respected, and able to enjoy the game, so we can focus on telling a great story together.
