About the adventure

Beneath a broken sky, the land of Barovia festers—trapped in a cycle that refuses to end. The moon hangs wrong here. Time bends. Death lingers. And at the center of it all stands Count Strahd von Zarovich… watching, waiting, remembering. The Brocken Moon is a heavily reimagined take on Curse of Strahd, built for players who want more than a module—they want a living story. This is a gothic horror campaign where your choices matter, your relationships shape the world, and nothing is ever as simple as it seems. Familiar locations remain, but they are changed. Twisted. Reforged into something deeper, stranger, and far more personal. This game leans into immersive roleplay, meaningful character arcs, and cinematic storytelling. You’ll encounter NPCs with their own goals and secrets, face enemies that think and adapt, and uncover mysteries that stretch beyond Barovia itself. Expect a balance of tension-filled exploration, challenging combat, and moments where the right (or wrong) decision can echo across the entire campaign. My style as a DM is collaborative, reactive, and story-first. I use modern rules (including 2024 updates), but prioritize flow, fairness, and player agency. I bring custom handouts, evolving mechanics, and layered narrative elements into play—so your character isn’t just surviving the world, they’re changing it. This table is best suited for players who enjoy: • Deep roleplay and character development • Dark fantasy and gothic horror themes • Tactical, meaningful combat • Being part of a story that adapts to them Whether you’re stepping into Barovia for the first time or returning with experience, this version of the world will challenge what you think you know. The mists are closing. The story is already in motion. The only question is—what part will you play?

About me

I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons since the early 80s, and over the years I’ve come to believe the best campaigns aren’t just played—they’re experienced. I primarily run games as a DM, focusing on immersive, character-driven storytelling where player choices matter and consequences carry forward. My campaigns are built with intention, continuity, and a strong narrative throughline that connects every session. Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned player, my goal is simple: deliver a table that feels engaging, consistent, and memorable. Every decision pulls a thread.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during a free Session 0, where we’ll build your characters together, align on tone, and connect your backstories to the world. This ensures everyone starts the campaign grounded, comfortable, and already part of the story. We will use the 2024 D&D ruleset as our foundation, along with thematic options and guidance from Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft to better fit the gothic horror setting. I’m happy to help guide both new and experienced players through the process. Key Details: • Starting Level: 2 • Stats: Point Buy • Allowed Content: 2024 core rules + Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft • Character Creation: Completed during Session 0 (no prep required) During Session 0, we’ll also: • Tie your character into the world of Barovia • Establish party connections (you won’t be strangers) • Discuss tone, themes, and table expectations • Cover any questions about rules or gameplay Whether you come with a concept in mind or start from scratch, you’ll leave Session 0 with a fully realized character ready to step into the mists.

What Arthur brings to the table

This is a fully immersive, professionally run experience—designed to feel less like a casual game night and more like stepping into a living story. Immersive Roleplay & NPCs I bring characters to life with distinct personalities, motivations, and voices where appropriate. NPCs remember your actions, react to your choices, and evolve over time—just like the world around you. Atmosphere & Audio I use Syrinscape to create layered ambient soundscapes—haunting winds, distant howls, creaking wood, and tense combat audio—to pull you deeper into Barovia. Visuals & Handouts You’ll experience custom maps, visual aids, and in-world handouts that reinforce the tone and help bring the setting to life beyond just description. Tactical, Meaningful Combat Combat is engaging and purposeful. Enemies act intelligently, encounters are designed with intent, and your decisions in battle matter. Victory is earned—not given. Story-Driven, Player-Focused Gameplay Your character is part of the story—not just along for the ride. I adapt the narrative based on your choices, backstory, and interactions with the world. Rules & Playstyle I use the 2024 ruleset as a foundation, with a focus on clarity and fairness. I generally follow Rules as Written, but I will lean into Rule of Cool when it enhances the story or creates a memorable moment—without breaking the integrity of the game. ⸻ My GM Style I run a collaborative, reactive, and story-first table. I’ll challenge you, support you, and create space for both high-tension moments and character-driven scenes. Expect: • A darker, gothic tone with moments of levity • Meaningful consequences (your choices matter) • A balance of roleplay, exploration, and combat • A game that adapts to you, not the other way around. What I Expect From Players To create the best possible experience for everyone at the table, I ask that players come ready to engage, collaborate, and respect the shared story we’re building together. Be Engaged & Present Stay involved during sessions—this is a collaborative story, and everyone’s participation makes it better. Minimize distractions and be ready when it’s your turn. Respect the Table Respect your fellow players’ time, spotlight, and boundaries. Let everyone have their moments, and support each other’s roleplay and ideas. Know Your Character You don’t need to memorize every rule, but have a general understanding of what your character can do. I’m always happy to help, especially for newer players. Be Reliable Consistency matters in a story-driven campaign. Please communicate ahead of time if you need to miss a session. Lean Into the Tone This is a gothic horror campaign. Buy into the setting, the stakes, and the atmosphere—it makes the experience richer for everyone. Play With Intent Your choices matter here. Take risks, make decisions, and engage with the world—but do so in a way that supports the group and the story.

Homebrew rules

This is a heavily modified Curse of Strahd campaign using the 2024 ruleset, with custom story elements and light homebrew mechanics to enhance immersion. Inspiration (Table Rule) In addition to the standard rules, Inspiration can be shared: • You may spend your Inspiration to give another player advantage on a roll • This must be declared before the roll is made • Describe how your character helps in the moment (optional, but encouraged!) This rule is designed to encourage teamwork, cinematic moments, and player collaboration.

Safety

How Arthur creates a safe table

Creating a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment is a top priority. While this is a gothic horror campaign, player comfort always comes first. Lines & Veils Before the campaign begins, I will share a Lines & Veils document for players to complete privately. This allows everyone to communicate boundaries ahead of time. Content listed as a Line will not appear in the game, and Veils will be handled off-screen or with limited detail. Session 0 Alignment During our free Session 0, we’ll review: • Tone, themes, and expectations of a horror setting • Any boundaries or sensitivities (without requiring anyone to share publicly) • Table etiquette and communication norms X, N, & O System (In-Game Safety Tool) We will use a simple, flexible system during play: • X – Stop immediately and move past content • N – Something is uncomfortable; adjust or redirect • O – Everything is good; continue These can be communicated verbally, in chat, or via direct message—whatever is most comfortable for you. No explanation is ever required. Open Communication If anything comes up during or after a session, I’m always available to talk privately. Feedback is welcome and helps ensure the game remains enjoyable for everyone. Horror with Respect This is a dark setting, but I focus on atmosphere, tension, and storytelling, not shock value. The goal is to create a compelling experience—not to make anyone uncomfortable. ⸻ Aftercare & Check-Ins After intense sessions or major story moments, I’ll take time to: • Check in with players • Give space to decompress • Make sure everyone is feeling good moving forward
