About the adventure

After a cataclysmic natural event in the 21st Century, two new 'Spaces' have opened up along with our world. Firstly, digital space -- the "Matrix". Look anything up, overlay anything in AR as laws and code are the strict tenets of this plane of Earth. The other plane is the Haematic, a blood dimension of pure chaos -- gore, flesh, fluid. Flesh from this world is now packaged up and sold in most stores as 'cruelty free meat', per the lovely contribution from Mining Corporation Myovor. All of this is backdrop however to what is truly most important right now this second; the soon reunion of 4 very special, very ordinary people, of whom currently lead quite normal lives with a few surprises here and there, and don't yet realize how truly important they are about to become. 5 years ago, they all met to do a mission together involving the rescue operation of a Yakuza daughter. It was a skilled operation that got you all some notoriety and job security within the Shadowrunning Industry for the next while. With some of you sticking together and others getting more involved in private lives, you have all been contacted by Gecko who knows a Mr. Johnson with a high paying job for everyone involving a certain nightclub -- the Copacabana. *** With 4 pre-made characters to choose from with their own unique backstories, this oneshot will take you through the basics of Shadowrun. This is an M-Rated oneshot -- movie violence, sexual references, explosions, bullets, guns, and mafia may be included as you attempt to heist Ronnie Silverhand, local mob boss with a little too much blackmail on his hands. It is set in a futuristic Melbourne, now reclaimed as Naarm. It has distinct Australian theming as I am Aussie myself, but does not mean you have to be! I encourage people all over the world to indulge in this homebrew setting/world. I like to leave room for roleplay, and this oneshot will definitely emphasise making big actions and figuring out the mechanics afterwards. We'll work together to have a great time! This oneshot created on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the original owners of the land whom I pay respect to as some of the oldest storytellers on Earth. Sovereignty was never ceded. This game uses no AI in its production.

About me

Hi there! I've grown up around TTRPGs for as long as I can remember. I find incredible amounts of joy in creating stories in my games that my players think about days, months after the session/s end. I'm a fun first, rule of cool Dungeon Master and I like to make intricate, weaving narratives that feels like a sandpit, but really sit on hidden rails. I'm here, queer, and love to cater all my games to the players that sit at them. Whether it's an intrigue, Game-of-Thrones-esque fey one-shot, or a long running X-Files/Supernatural campaign, I live for nostalgia, whimsy, and the stories we wanted to be a part of as tweens. I've grown most accustomed to D&D, however my secret first love was a tie between Stars Without Number and Traveler. My true passions flitter between D&D, Shadowrun, Call of Cthulhu, and a simple game of Dread.

Character creation

Creating your character

There will be 4 pre-made characters to choose from. Their backstories, pronouns, and appearances can all be modified if you so wish! Listed here from easiest to hardest to learn: {Guns} Goldie (short for Golden Wattle), a badass black grannie who looks innocent, but don't let her cane fool you. Her arms can whip out deadly shotgun augmentations at any moment, and her katana lies within her cane itself. She seeks to retire to the Carribean. {Blood Magic Assassin} Dropbear, a big gruff man with blood magic coursing through his body to make him better at doing what he does best -- slicing people with an axe. He's divorced with a daughter, Joey. {Drone Guy} Possum, a mid-50s man just trying to get through life. With a tragic loss in recent memory, he was given an Accessibility Bot, Lola, to look after his mental, physical, and social health. Naturally, he installed her with the most illegal, hidden weaponry money can buy. She will do anything to make sure he is safe and happy. {Hacker & Face} Gecko is a methodical hacker and face of the party. She's great at making a first impression before being forgotten moments later. She works for a company who's identity she's unaware, but has been tasked to gather the group together for another mission from her Mr. Johnson.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will play on Discord and Owlbear Rodeo. Discord requires an account, but Owlbear Rodeo doesn't need anything from you except the link I will provide. A working microphone, headphones, and internet connection is required, as well as a camera. If you don't have/want to turn on your camera however, that's okay too, but I do heavily encourage it! Otherwise, you don't need to know anything about the system! We will figure it all out together.

What Charlotte the Green brings to the table

Shadowrun is a very complex system. Therefore, I run heavily with the Rule of Cool to make things run smoothly. I indulge in roleplay, and as this setting is on the lighter side, with some comedic hijinks too. Combat is probable, but not definite. I do a lot of character voices (especially for the setting of Australia). I like to set up a Discord bot to play ambient music that you can control the volume of to your liking. I love to create atmosphere, tone, and have a good time as that's what this is all about!

Homebrew rules

Notably, Shadowrun usually has an Astral Plane apart from the real and the digital. Since this is set in my homebrew setting, the Astral Plane is more of a flesh dimension and leans more heavily into gore, mutation, and body horror. These heavy themes won't be included in the game, but are the backdrop and one distinct difference to normal Shadowrun games.

Safety

How Charlotte the Green creates a safe table

This will be lighter than Shadowrun usually is, to be both introductory and accessible. Possum's backstory does involve themes of grief and the loss of a loved one, but this can be ignored/modified. At a bare minimum, I always have an X card at my tables. I will have a special chat that only I can see messages in which you can type an X, N, or O in. I will also have an anonymous survey if you have anything you want to make sure isn't in the game/clarify/etc. You can always message me as well if you're comfortable.
