About the adventure

Your party, either for their skills or their moral character, have attracted the attention of a shadowy Robin Hood-like organization called the Golden Vault, who have invited you into their ranks. Your first mission, should you choose to accept it, is to avert potential catastrophe by stealing the mysterious Murkmire Stone that is about to go on display in a local museum, and seeing to it that your contact safely neutralizes it. A great introduction for beginner players, Keys to the Golden Vault is a series of heist stories wherein your characters will receive quests from an organization called the Golden Vault, and have to plan and execute heists to complete these quests. The sessions focus on role-playing and strategizing, and though there are opportunities for combat, most of them are avoidable if you're careful. Please bring a level one character to the first session created with D&D 5e 2024 rules. (See below for more details)

About me

I'm a queer and neurodivergent writer, performance artist, and aspiring lawyer. I like to put my years of acting classes to work by giving my NPCs strong personalities and facilitating fast-paced in-character dialogues. I believe that with enough creativity and whimsy in your heart, every game is a role-playing game—just ask anyone who's ever played Monopoly with me.

Character creation

Creating your character

If you have any questions, or aren't sure how to create a character, don't worry! Just reach out to me for help, and I'm more than happy to walk you through it : ) Keep in mind that this campaign is focused on heists, so character builds with high dexterity and/or charisma are recommended over heavy-hitters and tanks. You may use the following books (links to free-to-read versions included) as source material for character creation and spell selection. - Player's Handbook (2024) (https://online.anyflip.com/mldog/ynbn/mobile/index.html) - Mordenkainen Prensents: Monsters of the Multiverse (https://archive.org/details/mordenkainen-presents-monsters-of-the-multiverse-dungeon-dragons-book-ocr/page/n7/mode/1up) - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything (https://archive.org/details/tashas-cauldron-of-everything) - Xanathar's Guide to Everything (https://archive.org/details/xanatharsguideto0000unse) - Fizban's Treasury of Dragons (https://archive.org/details/fizbans-treasury-of-dragons_202502) - The Book of Many Things (https://archive.org/details/the-book-of-many-things) I may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis, if you want to use content from other books, as long as it complies with my homebrew policy (see below). If you get your info online, double-check the source listed on the online page to make sure you're using approved materials. Especially make sure that you're using the right version of the Player's Handbook as some things have changed significantly from the 2014 version. Update to 2024 rules: If your species traits include ability score improvement, instead of increasing ability scores please choose a feat that is appropriate for your character. If the background does not include ability score improvement, choose 2-3 ability scores to increase by a combined total of 3. If you have any questions or concerns regarding character building, don't hesitate to reach out and ask. My discord is @raaorqtpbpdy, and my DMs are open to anyone. You can also message me here on StartPlaying, but I'll be slower to respond.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I'll be running this game through Discord, so please make a free account if you don't already have one, and join the following server: https://discord.gg/CXec3fUxCM

What E brings to the table

I will have a few pre-made characters to choose from, just in case someone accidentally forgot, joined last-minute, misunderstood the character creation rules, or missed my homebrew policy. There is also a lines and veils document where you can anonymously let me know if anything on the list is an iffy topic for you so I can modify the module as needed: https://linesandveils.com/session/DDGPC8 I utilize character voices, the occasional musical sting, and DMs inspiration (which is different from heroic inspiration, but I'll explain that in game.) My games put the most emphasis on role-playing, followed by character building, strategy, and lastly combat. No matter how detailed your backstory, you'll likely have to make up something about your character on the spot, so be prepared.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew Policy: I will be running the game with rules as written, but will allow limited homebrew elements as long as they make sense for the characters/settings, do not put any player at an unfair advantage/disadvantage, and do not directly or indirectly contradict the rules as written. Any homebrew elements you wish to use MUST be approved by me before the game. **If you come to the table with a character that has homebrew elements I know nothing about then you will not be allowed to use them in-game.** (My discord is @raaorqtpbpdy, and my DMs are open to anyone. You can also message me here on StartPlaying, but I'll be slower to respond.)

Safety

How E creates a safe table

Lines and Veils: https://linesandveils.com/session/DDGPC8 Open door: If at any point, a player feels uncomfortable or needs to take a breather, they will be allowed to step away from the game completely free of judgement, no questions asked. If and when they return, I'll give a quick, non-graphic recap of what they missed so they don't have to worry about missing anything important. Safe Word: Xylophone is the safe-word in my RPG Discord Server. Unless a character uses a Xylophone, in which case I'll come up with something else. Debrief: When the session ends, with what time remains, I'll lead a debrief session to discuss the game and check-in with everyone about how they felt. This is optional for players, so you can leave early if you're not interested.
