About the adventure

The Curse of Strahd is usually for advanced players only. My name is Corwin Black and I am a DM with 40+ years of experience. I’ve played since 1979 (yes I’m that old LOL). I am extremely good with new and veteran players. I also have a fair number of time slots currently available; message me if you're looking for a different time slot. I've Run a very long campaign with a family of four for over 60 sessions and we're starting Curse of Strahd very shortly. I've never run this before but I am super excited about The Curse of Strahd. Traditionally I am VERY good at flying by the seat of my pants. So if you know a lot about Strahd already I can almost guarantee that some of my homebrew situations and play style will make it super fresh and fun. I have EXTENSIVE experience with The Tomb of Horrors, The Expedition to the Barrier peaks, and other classic modules and I understand the genre. Just look at my reviews. The parties that have the best results with me have a mixture of veteran and green players. Seriously; newbies do really well and contribute significantly even while learning. It's just my style. If you’re really super new you’re still going to feel overwhelmed for a couple of sessions; there’s just a lot to learn. However, I’m great at tutoring new players and encouraging the veterans to help. Just read my reviews. While the characters may feel like they’re under a lot of pressure; I am extremely good at making sure that the players are having a really good time, while not spoiling the tension. This is going to be a super fun campaign and the sessions are going to be a blast. You're going to feel the excitement; but not the fatigue of the heavy subject matter (to varying degrees... it IS a horror adventure story after all). Honestly, I think this is the most fun I've had as a DM. Hope to hear from you soon. Corwin Black

About me

Greetings and Salutations! My name is… Corwin the Black Wolf… My quest… is to run great D&D games with great people. My favorite color… is gold with platinum trim! Just call me Corwin (sounds like it is spelled). I also answer to, “Hey you I forgot your name.” I am the son of a Methodist minister and a high school math teacher. My father majored in Old Testament, my mother was the first woman to graduate from Indiana University with a physics degree, and my brother is now a rocket scientist (aerospace engineer). I've been playing D&D since 1977. I was five years old, and my brother was eight. In 1979 my older brother and friends got a module called, “The Tomb of Horrors.” My parents surmised that it would be too scary for me to play. So, my brother and friends, employing their ‘10 year old logic’ and solved that problem by making me the DM. That way; I wouldn’t ‘play’ the module I would ‘run’ it. What I realized quickly was that the PCs are at the mercy and benevolence of the Dungeon Keeper. They found that out quickly as well. I was hooked. Being the dungeon’s keeper clicked and I’ve never looked back. Since I could barely read at the time; I had to learn how to fly by the seat of my pants and as it turned out I was good at it. That was forty six years ago (46!!!). Good lord, I can hardly believe it. I love D&D and I love a good game and I love good people that play the game. I’ve run more games than I can count; and still going strong. I have more stories than there are pages in a paperback, and I’m still in awe of how much fun players have.

Character creation

Creating your character

I have my own homebrew method. Send me a Direct Message (or email here) and I'll respond promptly. There's not a lot to do with this adventure because the players start at level 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This is a difficult one to prepare for. If you've extensive knowledge of Strahd than don't worry I've got my own style. If you haven't there are a large number of videos that are labeled specifically for players. They're usually pretty good. I spend a couple of hours typically for free with each player getting them set up. That makes it easier and it's a great long term strategy.

What Corwin brings to the table

I have all the necessary tools.

Homebrew rules

Okay; 1. Counterspell is banned, However 1st level characters can select a free additional proficiency in a saving’s throw. 2. Monks are banned; they just are. 3. Gun slingers are NOT banned. 4. Evil or Neutral characters are not going to work well. If you want to play a character that requires an evil alignment then; you can play one with a redemption ark. I love those; and I DM them extremely well. 5. Homebrew races, classes, backgrounds etc. are subject to being nerfed. 6. All the players must consent to work as a team; otherwise everybody gets mad and I don't DM that way. 7. If you’re having an affair I don’t want to know about it. (Yeah, I see that)... I’ve DM’d for over 40 years. LMAO. 8. Natural 1’s have consequences; but they are usually not catastrophic. 9. Make sure to talk and think out loud. If you’re trying to solve a mystery and you just happen to ask the exact right question it’s like rolling a natural 20. 10. Have fun dammit!!! 11. Don’t f__ing cuss; seriously. The humor and language is capped at PG-13. Although this IS a horror adventure. 12. Politics; You’re political opinions are okay to express; but remember EVERYONE else has the right to not listen to them; and if somebody asks a person to dial it back a notch, then they need to do so. 13. The last but most important; don’t be an asshole, and have fun; for crying out loud. Remember it’s how good the story is that counts!

Safety

How Corwin creates a safe table

Honestly don't be a jerk and everybody will have fun. Remember it is just a game. Strahd is however, an intense module so be prepared for that. Typically it's the standard array with two +3s, and two +2 placed in four separate abilities.
