About the adventure
I had the idea for this back in 2019 when I saw the SNL "The Joker" Parody Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqpak5lFxvs), loving a dark take on childhood favorites. When PBS faced defunding in 2025, leading to Sesame Street's transfer to Netflix studios, I whipped the idea back out and built this short campaign. The image of the Kaufman Astoria Studio's Sesame Street sound stage going dark after 30+ years of magic, puppets sitting solemnly on the iconic 123 Sesame Street stoop, illuminated only by a ghostlight, lingered in my head. So that's where the mystery will begin. In a Toy Story-like way, your characters are alive and able to move without being puppeteered, you can communicate with one another, and you are very aware that you are no longer bringing joy to the youth of the world like you used to. While I built the stats for your characters, you are welcome to do what you want with the roles. You can stay close to source material, joyous and full of hope and positivity, or you can portray a pessimistic, dark, damaged version of the muppet we know and love. The available pre-made level 7 characters are as follows: Abby Cadabby: Tiefling Sorcerer (Clockwork Sorcery) Big Bird: Goliath Cleric (Peace Domain) Cookie Monster: Human Barbarian (Path of the Berzerker) The Count: Orc Warlock (Great Old One & Pact of the Tome) Oscar the Grouch: Dwarf Fighter (Eldritch Knight) Zoe & Rocco: Human Bard (College of Creation) Though I created these character sheets & chose spells, you can choose a weapon (if you would like) and pitch any other character ideas.

Preparing for the session
We will be playing using Discord and DnD Beyond/Roll 20, so please make sure you make accounts on both.
What Laura Chiarello brings to the table
You can expect a creepy story, a grim spin on a childhood classic, lots of muppet voices, and a wacky premise. Roleplay and character choices are highly encouraged! I am certainly a Rule of Cool DM, so bring your fun ideas!
Homebrew rules
Cookie Monster: In order to enter a rage, you must eat a cookie. If you see a cookie, you must roll a CON saving throw DC 18 or enter a cookie rage against your will. The Count: You are listed on the website as an orc, but to make you a vampire, I’m giving you dark vision and a vampire bite attack (listed under attacks) Oscar the Grouch: Your trash can is +5 chainmail armor and the trash can lid is a +2 shield. If in the trashcan w/ the lid, your AC is 16, but you have DIS on stealth and 15ft speed. Outside the can w/ the lid, your AC is 11, but you have normal stealth and 30ft speed. Zoe & Rocco: Rocco and his stats are listed under the EXTRAS tab as a companion. Though your Animate Performance Dancing Item feature says only once per game, I will allow it whenever we enter initiative. He shares your initiative order and goes directly after you. If you want him to make an attack on his turn, you must use your bonus action to command him. His attacks are listed under ACTIONS-ATTACKS. I will also grant Rocco one Bardic Inspiration dice to give out because I think it’s funny.
