About me
I'm a new DM. Hoping to run One-shots for other new D&D Players! I mainly use 5e, but I do like to sprinkle in some homebrew! If you play at my table, I ask that you be kind and understand that people make mistakes!

What DM August brings to the table
I run games with a strong focus on storytelling, immersion, and atmosphere, drawing players into living worlds that react to their choices. My style leans into gothic tone, detailed roleplay, and tense, cinematic combat, creating a balance between character-driven storytelling and high-stakes encounters. I enjoy crafting hooks that make every character feel connected to the world, and I adapt the narrative around the decisions players make. Expect a mix of exploration, roleplay, and challenging battles where your actions carry real weight. My goal is always to give players a memorable, immersive experience where they feel like the heroes (or villains) of their own dark tale.

How DM August creates a safe table
Player safety and emotional comfort are top priorities in my games. I believe that storytelling is at its best when everyone feels respected, heard, and free to engage without fear of discomfort or harm. Here are the tools and processes I use to ensure a safe, inclusive environment: Lines and Veils Document Yes, I will be sending a Lines and Veils document before Session 0. Players will be encouraged to add any content they’re uncomfortable with—either anonymously or openly. This document is living, meaning we can update it anytime as needs evolve. Lines: Hard boundaries—topics or content that will not appear in the game at all. Veils: Topics that may exist in the world or backstory, but will "fade to black" or be handled off-screen. Session 0 Topics Session 0 is dedicated to group safety, collaboration, and expectation-setting. Topics will include: Reviewing the Lines and Veils document. Explaining X, N, and O safety tools and how to use them. Setting tone, genre, and boundaries for the campaign. Talking about character concepts and potential conflicts (to prevent bleed or unwanted drama). Discussing play style, spotlight sharing, and pacing preferences. Going over scheduling, communication, and any accessibility needs. Safety Tools I use multiple safety tools, and players are free to choose the one(s) they’re most comfortable with: X, N, & O System: Used live during sessions. Digital play: Players can message me privately (via DM) or use emojis/reactions in chat. Video play: Players can hold up a physical X/N/O card or signal verbally. Pause and rewind: Anyone can pause the game if they feel uncomfortable. We can rewind or skip past content as needed—no explanations required. Open Door Policy: Anyone can step away from the session or the campaign at any time, for any reason. Aftercare After each session, I’ll check in with players—either as a group or individually—via message or in our group chat. This is a space for: Debriefing intense moments (if any). Checking for emotional or narrative discomfort. Receiving feedback on how things went and what to adjust. Ongoing Consent and Communication Safety and consent are not just Session 0 topics—they’re ongoing conversations. I maintain open communication between sessions and encourage feedback or boundary updates at any time. I will model consent and boundaries through NPC behavior and my own conduct as a GM. If you have any specific concerns or needs, feel free to reach out privately—before, during, or after sessions. Everyone deserves to feel safe while telling stories together.
