About the adventure
Daggerheart is a brilliant new game system from the makers of Critical Role. It has lots of the same things you might love about D&D but with a new, fresh take on the genre. I'm excited to be able to take you through your very first steps in this exciting new game! Whether you're a veteran TTRPG'er or you've never picked up dice before I'll walk you through the core of what you need to know to play Daggerheart including - * Character Generation * Core systems (rolling basic tests, understanding the results, using resources like Hope or Stress etc) * Combat systems (attacks, damage, using powers etc) * Leveling up! We'll do a basic session zero together to create your characters and get you ready for your first session. This session might well be a bit shorter than the storytelling sessions so I'll reduce the price to just $15 for this session after you enroll on the three session block! Then over two storytelling sessions we'll play through the story of a group of young adventurers and the excitement that threatens to overtake the harvest festival of their normally sleepy seaside village!

About me
I have been a roleplayer for most of my adult life starting in the 90s with systems like WoD and Tristat and then expanding into a broad range of others both crunchy and story lead. I LOVE the feeling of discovery that comes from exploration and mysteries whether from the world you're playing in or the NPCs and cultures you encounter. That's often what I try to give my players when I GM - moments of "Ohhhhhhh" or "Yes! That makes sense" or "WOW! I did not see that coming!" I'm a bit of a scaredy cat in real life (I can't watch horror movies on my own!) but my games often play with themes that touch on gothic or cosmic horror as I find those worlds fascinating. I'd say all my games are 'story forward' which doesn't mean I shy away from combat or game systems but just that I'm more focused on telling a good story than on strict rules interpretations and bean counting. I'm still human - I love my mounds of beans as much as the next gamer - they're just not always the main root of my games.

Creating your character
We will create new level one characters together during the first session using the rules in the Daggerheart Core Book using the online platform Demiplane. If you want to sneak a look ahead then go for it but you don't need to as we'll walk through the whole process together.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Download and create a free account on Discord (https://discord.com) Make sure your mic and camera work on there Create a free account on Demiplane (https://app.demiplane.com/home) N.B There is no need to pay for any content as I can share the stuff we need with you for free :) During/just before the first session I will send you a link to our specific campaign on Demiplane. Of course you can read ahead in the Daggerheart Core Rulebook if you like but we'll be going through it step by step so don't feel you need to unless you'd enjoy it :) It would really help me if you could message me on here just to let me know what level of TTRPG experience you have - there's no wrong answer to that question - it will just help me gear up to the specific group.
What Dan Mossman brings to the table
I'll take you through the basics of everything you need to be able to play Daggerheart. I use theatre of the mind to keep things smooth and simple as we play and will make sure you also get a chance to meet some interesting characters along the way! When learning a new system I've always found it best to keep the table mood light so the themes of this game will lend themselves towards a little light humour and some fun story situations alongside some simple but interesting combat. As you can see from this listing the game is open to people with no TTRPG experience at all so if you are an experienced player please be aware you may be sharing a table with some newbies and be prepared to welcome them to our hobby if that's the case :)

How Dan Mossman creates a safe table
In our session zero we'll have the opportunity to discuss any particular needs or exclusions we'll need to make to be sure you have a great time. I've listed some content warnings which should be tagged below and generally this scenario is fairly relaxed but I want to be sure that everyone feels safe and welcome so please feel free to raise any concerns you have with me either in our session zero or at any time using startplaying.com messages.
