About me

A writer, poet, and anthropologist, I love to introduce new players to the fantastical worlds I grew up in and love even more building new worlds with players of all experience levels (including no experience!) DMing is a passion of mine, something I am always striving to improve at: the physical world around me is littered with sourcebooks, notebooks, guides, print-outs, Post-Its, dice, half-painted miniatures, and other paraphernalia related to this incredible hobby. All of my games are LGBTQ+ friendly, and my tables are safe spaces where everyone is welcome, so long as they believe that everyone is welcome.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create characters and their 8-card decks during Session 0, with guidance provided by the Judge (game master). Players will be able to chat, look through playbooks, and discuss character ideas on Discord leading up to Session 0, but communal creation is the way to go. Players starting after Session 0 will still be able to chat with other players to discuss character ideas and look through playbooks, but will be guided through character creation 1-on-1 with the Judge. For the Tournament of All Time Arc, only core rulebook playbooks are allowed to be used.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a free Discord account (https://www.discord.com) for communication and voice calls, as well as either a printer or program capable of filling in form-fillable PDFs for character sheets. Players will also need some way to replicate their deck of cards, such as small tearable sheets of notebook paper.

What Gerald brings to the table

I will have the rules needed for the game available to players, as well as any other materials we'll need. I bring years of experience (and the experience of having run over 600 games on StartPlaying alone!) to the table, many of which were spent at in-person and online conventions, teaching new players! I also bring just... terrible character voices. Just the worst. 😃 Additionally, I bring with me a gaming community full of great weirdos. My Discord channel is full of fun people who love gaming in all its forms and fun conversations take place daily.

Safety

How Gerald creates a safe table

This game contains fantasy violence. Character death is on the table, as EXALTED is a game of life-and-death. Content warnings are non-comprehensive, due to the nature of a bunch of people coming together to hang out together while playing a game. If something comes up that makes you uncomfortable, there are many ways you can make that known, including X-Cards and Lines & Veils. You will never be expected or pressed to share your trauma history with anyone else at the table; simply saying "X this" is enough to change direction of the session.
