About the adventure

This game takes place in a high fantasy setting filled with magic and fighting, along with social intrigue and conversation. Intended for people new to DnD (5th edition or otherwise), this adventure will take people through several typical stages of a fantasy-based adventure, investigation, and (almost inevitably!) combat. This is an ideal introduction for the first-time player facilitated by a long-time DM.

About me

I have over 10 years experience casually DMing games, primarily 3.5e DnD. I have recently started DMing 5th edition, and find it pretty interesting. I have a range of experience with different systems from White Wolf, to D20, to Advanced DnD, to Hawkmoon, to Paranoia, Avatar (PbtA), to... I like games.

Character creation

Creating your character

If this is your first session with me, all characters will be starting at level 1. This is something I'm happy to facilitate for new players separately from the booked gaming session. I would recommend, especially for new players, to use DnDBeyond to create a character, and we will be using either the Standard Array or Points Buy for stats.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

An account on DnDBeyond is strongly encouraged. Beyond that, I'm happy to use either Google Meet or Discord to facilitate the game itself. I have a discord server people can join for the purposes of the game.

What Brian Lynchehaun brings to the table

I try to characterise the various people in the game as best I can (I'm not an actor), and I make an effort to be as descriptive as is helpful both in and outside combat. A mere "you hit/miss" is pretty boring, so I try to broaden the scope of what the dice roll actually means visually/viscerally. I consider both transparency and fairness to be key to a good game, so I tend to adhere fairly strictly to the rules as written (I'm pretty flexible on merely flavouring things, but the mechanics are what they are).

Homebrew rules

Unless the players want to discuss something specific ahead of time, I don't use any homebrew rules.
