About the adventure

Public Access is a fiction-first, analog-horror mystery game set in a small desert town where the urban legends are a little too real and things are not quite...right. Think Welcome to Night Vale, Twin Peaks, X-Files, Candle Cove, Netflix's Bandersnatch, and creepypasta internet horror stories. In this game, your characters will work to solve the mysteries of a sleepy Southwestern town and discover the truth behind the disappearance of TV Odyssey - but they, and their histories, are also at the center of the entire web. You might be a burnt-out tech worker who can't shake the way old sitcom episodes sit next to memories of your mother's death and the feeling that you're missing a sibling. You could be a nerdy librarian obsessed with choose-your-own-adventure books who's starting to see the branching paths in the real world every time they turn the page. Or maybe you're a washed-up film student who tells themselves they're making a documentary, but the distance behind the lens doesn't feel as safe as it used to. You're just a regular, messed-up twentysomething trying to get through a Wednesday in 2004, but something in you already knows the answer. You've always known. You just haven't remembered yet. Explore the haunted house at the end of the street where the family who once lived there disappeared in the middle of dinner. Decipher the unsettling truth hidden in an old tape where puppets tell children how to punish their parents for not loving them anymore. Unravel the dangerous mystery of a haunted arcade cabinet that leaves afterimages burned in your brain and try not to get lost in the game. You have the keys. Open the door at the bottom of the basement stairs. Just know that you can't look away from whatever you find...

About me

Hi, I'm Rei! I've been running roleplaying games for about 15 years now. I got my start with Dungeons & Dragons and from there have gotten into all types of tabletop rpgs, with my current favorites being narrative forward, RP-heavy games, and fast and creative rules-medium to rules-lighter games. I enjoy teaching and helping new players and telling immersive stories that give players room to be creative and shape the game world. I run a safe, inclusive table open to LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent folks. Chaotic good vibes only!

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll build your characters, your party relationships, and decide on the scope and tone of your adventure together during Session 0. No prep or pre-written backstories are needed. We'll discover the characters and their connections together through conversation at the table. We'll use rules as written from the Public Access book. You can choose from the many starter ideas as inspiration or build an entirely custom character.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need access to Discord and a web browser for this game. If you have a copy of Public Access, it's helpful, but not required. I'll provide access to basic rules and reference sheets.

What Rei brings to the table

I run an inclusive table where LGBTQ+, neuro-divergent folk, and POC are welcome and encouraged to join. This is also a beginner-friendly game - if you've never played Public Access, a narrative game, or any RPG at all - welcome! I'm here to help you learn! What you can expect from me: - Safety and respect for boundaries. - Clear communication, easy scheduling, and organized resources. - Clear, consistent use of the rules balanced with a willingness to interpret them broadly when it creates a better story. - Opportunities for character growth and for your backstory to be woven into the narrative. - Character voices and musical ambiance. - Rich narration and a living, interconnected world. - Emotional moments where we slow down and get to know each character's inner world. - A collaborative environment where you get to help shape the world and the story.
