About the adventure

Dark, dark shadows lie in wait for those who seek riches. We utilize elements of Pirate Borg (random tables, events, map) to paint a darker Caribbean where the New Continent has yet to be colonized due to mysterious forces that have left most settlements destroyed. Obtain absolute power through "Pieces of Eden", which could gain you riches incomprehensible, or spell doom for your entire crew. This game utilizes elements from the Assassin's Creed series, especially AC4: Black Flag & AC: Rogue. Join one of the sides and fight for what's right - or for what's profitable! 7th Sea 2nd Edition is the core system utilized by this campaign. Customize your vessel, sell loot to settlements and build your own ship and hideout as you accumulate more wealth and more knowledge. The system encourages dramatic actions and heavy roleplay.

About me

I like being everywhere: I’ve started with Cyberpunk, but I’ve dabbled with Vampire, Hunter, Silt Verses, F.I.S.T., even trying my hand at some Pirate TTRPGs. I love titles where I can reward my players mechanically for acting according to their character, for doing good roleplay. I believe that the only way to find out things about yourself is through imagining characters. There's a little bit of ourselves in those characters and that agency helps us approach the darkest parts of our soul from a safe distance. My favorite part of GM-ing is worldbuilding. Expect decrepit descriptions of desolate dumps, vivid visual graphics, suave sounds (music, ambience and everything in-between). I love to stimulate all the senses and tell a story through all the mediums. At the end of the day, the GM and the players are engaging in collaborative storytelling, with the GM serving as a guide through their world. When the players and the GM have a connection – “chemistry” – the system is augmented by their roleplay, no matter what it is.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create their character according to 7th Sea 2e rules (pg. 133-163 in the Rulebook), although they may also deploy Pirate Borg character generators for quirks and details. They can do so in any available character sheet from the 7th Sea resources, but they can also do so in a .doc file, as their sheets during play will be available in Tabletop Simulator.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will have to talk to the GM on a preemptive interview on Discord in which they will discuss expectations, experience level, resources needed etc. for both parties to familiarize themselves before the game. We will be using Tabletop Simulator, with a customized version (with in-program 7th Sea sheets) of the PirateBorg table available on the Workshop. Make sure you have Tabletop Simulator bought and installed. Also, we will be using Discord for audio (video optional) communication.

What G-man brings to the table

Expect and bring knowledge-sharing about ships, the historical epoch (Golden Age of Piracy and beyond), as well as curiosity! We will be utilizing ambience & music using Kenku FM on Discord. Tabletop Simulator also allows us to have a very immersive experience using a map and ship tokens. Expect a lot of variety in characters, from historically-accurate, to Assassin's Creed-inspired, to bizarre Pirate Borg contraptions, to libertarians dreaming of a Free America. The world is strange because of its inhabitants, but all of them react realistically. Our system (7th Sea) allows deep and dramatic actions in both combat and non-combat scenes, as it isn't about counting the number of actions. Instead, players declare intentions, take up Opportunities and react to Consequences, with narrative and descriptive consequences being everpresent.

Homebrew rules

7th Sea mechanics and origins have been translated into historically-accurate versions (British, Spanish etc.) Pirate Borg lore will be employed for interesting effects (for example, the existence and production of ASH, a highly-addictive substance native to the Caribbean).

Safety

How G-man creates a safe table

The Lines & Veils Doc is available in the Discord Server for any player to add their lines & veils anonymously. Any changes (homebrew, safety etc.) will be discussed amongst all players and the GM before being implemented. Breaks will occur every hour and a half, usually at the midpoint of the session. However, the players can take a break at any point as long as they let the GM know! X, N & O cards will be sent via DM on Discord to the GM. After the end of every session, we will discuss as a group what we enjoyed and what we disliked about the session (Stars & Wishes), including things such as music (too loud/distracting?), ambience (specific triggers that weren't mentioned previously, like dogs barking), characters (if they were too pushy or not), but also our expectations for the future sessions. This is both a session for feedback/debriefing (from the GM to the players, from the players to the GM and for players by other players), as well as a short aftercare for any sort of bleed-through of emotional depth from the story into real life.
