About the adventure

In Chariot of the Gods, you and your crew are sent to investigate a drifting vessel that should not exist anymore. Inside, the air feels wrong, the corridors feel too quiet, and the logs hint at something that went terribly, irreversibly wrong. This is a cinematic sci-fi horror experience inspired by the tone of Alien and Prometheus, where tension grows slowly and every decision matters. This game is perfect for players who love immersive storytelling, mystery, and psychological horror. You don’t need to know the system in advance. I guide new players step by step and focus on atmosphere, roleplay, and meaningful choices rather than complicated rules. If you enjoy games where the story feels intense, personal, and unpredictable, you will feel right at home here. My style as a Game Master is very narrative-focused and cinematic. I like to build tension gradually, use sound, pacing, and description to create real suspense, and give each character moments to shine. The game mixes investigation, survival, and roleplay, with moments of sudden danger where quick thinking becomes the difference between survival and something far worse. If you enjoy sci-fi horror, strong roleplay, and unforgettable one-shot experiences where every scene feels like part of a movie, this table was made for you. Come aboard! But remember: not every distress signal is meant to be answered.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation for Chariot of the Gods will be handled in a short Session Zero before the game. During this time, players can choose from a set of pre-generated characters, each with their own backgrounds and hidden agendas, or create their own characters with my guidance. I will provide all the necessary materials in advance, and we will finalize everything together during Session Zero so everyone feels comfortable and ready to play. The game uses the official Alien RPG cinematic rules, so no prior experience is needed. I will guide you through everything step by step.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

First, make sure you have a Discord account, as we will use it for voice communication during the session. A stable microphone and internet connection are strongly recommended to maintain immersion and pacing. Second, you will receive an invite link to join the game on Foundry VTT. No installation is required, as Foundry runs directly in your browser, but using an updated Chrome or Firefox browser is highly recommended for the best performance. Before Session Zero, I will also share any relevant materials, including character options and basic rules. Taking a few minutes to review these will help you get into the game faster. That’s it. Once you’re set up, just show up ready to engage with the story, interact with the crew, and face whatever is waiting in the dark.

What GM Phill brings to the table

I provide a fully immersive, cinematic experience focused on tension, atmosphere, and meaningful player choices. Expect detailed scene descriptions, strong pacing, and a constant sense of unease as the story unfolds. I make use of ambient music and sound design to reinforce the mood, especially during exploration and high-stress moments. My GM style leans heavily into narrative and roleplay. The game is less about winning and more about experiencing a gripping story where your choices carry weight. Mechanically, I follow the Alien RPG cinematic rules closely, but I prioritize flow and tension over rigid rule enforcement when needed. Combat is fast, dangerous, and often unpredictable, reinforcing the survival horror tone rather than tactical optimization.

Safety

How GM Phill creates a safe table

Player safety and comfort are a priority at my table, especially given the intense themes of sci-fi horror. Before the game, I will share a Lines and Veils document so everyone can clearly communicate boundaries and content preferences. We will review this together during Session Zero to ensure a safe and respectful play environment for all players. I use a simple and effective safety system during play. Players can use X, N, and O signals at any time, either through chat or voice on Discord, to pause, adjust, or check in on the intensity of a scene. No explanation is ever required in the moment. If something feels off, we immediately shift the scene. Session Zero will also cover tone, expectations, character boundaries, and group comfort levels. This ensures everyone is aligned before the game begins and helps build trust at the table. After the session, I always leave space for a short debrief. This allows players to decompress, share thoughts, and step out of the tension of the game. The goal is for everyone to feel safe, respected, and able to fully enjoy the experience from start to finish.
