About the adventure

This campaign, crafted by the renowned John Goff, draws on Arthurian legend combined with an alternative history and is sure to entice experienced and new players equally looking for a fantastical TTRPG experience that will take them into a world that blends the supernatural with historically inspired events throughout the British Isles of 877 C.E. You and your group of Seasoned heroes will start just outside of a modest-sized town in southern Wessex and quickly get drawn into a murder investigation, while Danish incursions occur throughout. Soon, however, you could easily find yourself as agents of King Alfred, traveling the land and providing aid to the common folk, while being drawn into an ancient and bitter rivalry! So grasp your holy symbols, sharpen your blades, and secure any additional accoutrements as we journey to the lands of mystical mists and supernatural secrets. A working knowledge of the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition TTRPG system nor quasihistorical 877 Briton is NOT required.

About me

I've been playing TTRPGs since the West End Games' Star Wars 1st Edition (1988-ish), and have been a full-time Gamemaster since then. While I have proficiency in a decent amount of systems, I have a current fondness for Savage Worlds, with approximately 10 years of experience running it. I tend to be what I fondly call a "reactive GM", as my home table(s) is quite fond of avoiding plot hooks, or going straight off the rails in pursuit of their own goals. As this is something I often encourage, being a reactive GM is a skill that I have honed over many decades of gaming, both with large and small groups. I often approach gamemastering with the thought process of "this is YOUR story, I'm just here to provide backdrop". While I enjoy creating characters and story beats within the rules of the system, I am also perfectly comfortable adjusting (or even creating) mechanics to help meet specific needs as they arise. I also have created a couple independent TTRPG systems throughout my time as a GM, and even dipped my toes into online publishing during the d20 heyday for a time, with moderate success. I've joined the online TTRPG community as a way to continue improving my GM skills, as well as to grow the community overall.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be created using only the SWADE core rulebook as well as the Deadlands: Dark Ages setting book. Starting characters will be Seasoned Rank, with only Humans (preferably Britons) as the allowed Ancestry. You can come to Session Zero with a character concept, choose a mostly completed Archetype, or if you would like, I will help you create a character that will be enjoyable to play and fit within the campaign. I am willing to work with you from the ground up, picking Hindrances, Edges, etc in an effort to match your style of play as well as your comfort level, which we can do either during Session Zero or individual meetings beforehand.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need Discord for the Voice Channel (VC), as well as Fantasy Grounds for the Virtual Tabletop (VTT). My Discord link will be provided once you join the game, but feel free to message me through the StartPlayingGames' message functions to ask any questions you may have beforehand. Decent internet access will also be needed, along with good audio equipment, such as a headset and microphone.

What Peterson brings to the table

When you join one of my games, you'll be welcomed to my personal Discord server with a dedicated channel for the game, both of which are available to use at any time! If you have any questions before or between sessions, or want to just chat about the game or your character? I'm available as needed, either voice or text. Players are welcome to request a guest spot in any other game to see what it's all about. If a spot is available, the player can sit in on a session or two (at no cost!) as a PC or NPC to see if it appeals to them. Games are intended to run as scheduled, and I will have side quests (one sheets, basically) available in the event that a session has less than 3 players available, assuming the remaining players wish to go that route. I'm also willing to skip a session when needed/desired by the group. If you join a game and don't enjoy it, I'll gladly refund your session price with no questions asked.

Homebrew rules

I have no homebrew rules at this time, but open to explore options if something comes up during the course of play.

Safety

How Peterson creates a safe table

I primarily make use of a Fantasy Grounds extension that embeds the X, N, & O cards digitally for in-session safety. However, I am always available via private Discord message before, during, after, and in-between sessions. My virtual tables are created to be a safe and welcoming place for all, and I ask that you speak up (either privately or publicly) if you ever feel uncomfortable (or if you think someone else may feel that way). Feel free to hold me accountable at any time, but please come to the table in good faith, respect the other players, and encourage each other to engage in cooperative, emergent roleplaying.
