About the adventure

Set in a modified version of the Forgotten Realms which I have been working on for quite some time now, The Chantry Coalition is a campaign that would follows a group of adventurers whose job it is to scout out ruins and dungeons, dealing with their denizens and bringing back artifacts and lost knowledge for their compatriots to study. Within, there will be hauntings, rival guilds, dreaded monsters, and certainly, most certainly indeed, there will be dragons. This campaign is intended for intermediate players, though I am more than happy to DM for people with more or less experience under their belt, as I often have in the past. Players can expect exploration of set piece locations, memorable combat encounters and NPC's, and great mysteries that reach across ages. Questions, keen observations, and strategic maneuvers will always be rewarded. With a wide, high fantasy setting, The Chantry Coalition will feature all sorts of people and places, and players are encouraged to work with me to come up with where they hail from, and in doing so, fleshing out the world and grounding themselves in the setting. I've taken the skeletal structure of the Forgotten Realms and reconstructed it in a way that I find pleasing, which means I have world built a great deal based off of classic Forgotten Realms lore, with my own flavour. It also means I don't have every thing figured out and remade to my liking, so if there is a location, player race, or bit of background information you wish to incorporate with your character, this can absolutely be done. Just because I have no lore for Tabaxi's, doesn't mean you can't play a Tabaxi. Players can expect to receive a short document in which I outline the major changes to the setting to read before session zero.

About me

My name is Morrigan Stride and I'm looking to play more of the games I love most. I've been DM'ing a campaign in 5e for three years now and have learned much from that. On the side, I've run many one shots, some in different systems, all of which have been highly enjoyable. I'm a genre fiction writer from Vancouver with a deep love for blending fantasy, science fiction, and horror, so you can often expect a mix of the three to some degree in a session ran by me. I like the Elder Scrolls, all of Tolkien's work, the Locked Tomb series, Fromsoft games, and Revolutionary Girl Utena, so these can give you an idea of a lot of my major influences.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will begin with a free session 0, in which the party will be constructed together. Stats will be rolled. You will need a copy of the Player's Handbook, 2014, though I am open to incorporating features from D&D 2024, as some of the classes have received genuinely very good improvements from this edition. The starting level will be 3. The first proper session will also be free.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account. Upon joining the campaign, you will be added to the server.

What Morrigan brings to the table

You can expect character voices, and ambient and combat music. You can expect intense battles. I walk a fine line between Rule of Cool and Rules as Written. If you want me to ignore the Rules as Written for you, then the 'cool' in question better be really cool.

Homebrew rules

At my table, I allow drinking potions to be done as a bonus action, but administering one to an ally requires an action. I utilize the optional Cleave mechanic. Nat 20s result in high successes, but they can't get you everything. Likewise, Nat 1's will be rough, but not unfair. I allow the casting of two spells during turns, as long as they use different actions, (as in, a wizard could use their action to cast Disintegrate and then use their bonus action to cast Misty Step). I don't utilize encumbrance.

How Morrigan creates a safe table

Before we have our session 0, I will be sending out a RPG Consent checklist which will give me a very good idea of your Lines and Veils. During session 0, we will discuss what we're comfortable with as a group so that players can be on the same page, and we can establish hard limits, (like PVP, or inter-party romance), if need be. X, N, and O's can be DM'd privately to me or spoken aloud. Before and after every session, we will have a check-in were we see what we are comfortable with today, and how we felt about the session at the end. You can always talk to me about your comfort levels, either with the group or privately.
